SOURCE: transmission slams into gears

you cant it a self seal transmission supposedly design to be maintenance free up to 100k miles which GM claims. my opinion is the worst transmission GM ever came out with. they should recall every single one of those car replacing all car with new transmission. If you leak and loose all the fluid you in deep trouble, I recommend take it to the dealership and have it look at. Supposing ly you have to brake tran-ny loose to fill the fluid. I hate to say be careful driving that car without or little of tran-ny fluid, you will burn your tran-ny very quick and the car will be no good. I hope that help

Changing the fluild ( all of it) might fix it if your lucky. Something overheating sounds possible. Any cooling system problem can cause this and cleaning the cooling system and flushing out the transmission cooler in the raditor may go a long way towards fixing your problem. dity raditor and or coolant will cause this problem. I you clean everything real good and then go and drive it and it goes longer but still does it your in for another rebuild. this time put in a new raditor to make sure the transmission lasted as long as it's supposed to. It's possible the throttle pressure was'nt set right and the trans upshifts too early and therefore the transmission gets too hot cause the engine is going too slow to make good transmission pressure and the slipping transmission overheats. again even after corrected it'll still do it as the transmission internal seals are adamaged by heat and it'll need to be rebuilt again.

This is a common problem with Broncos, The dealer can solve this by Re-Flashing the ECM, Engine Control Module, or at worst, Re-Programming the ECM. Auto Plaza Ford in St. Louis quoted $129.00 for the diagnosis and Re-Flash and $109.00 additional if it needed a complete Re-Program. The Problem will come back if not fixed.

The first thing to do is to check the transmission fluid level as some of your symptoms are classic for low fluid levels.

Transmission

Your vehicle has the 3.4 ltr engine and the 4T65E model transmission, which i have rebuilt many, many of.First, verify the transmission fluid level is FULL,and not low, also verify by pulling the pan, that the filter is in place. If all that checks out, then the problem is internal. For the problem you are describing, there are two areas to address. The first, which can be checked outside the trans with a 0-300 psi gauge is the EPC solenoid.EPC stands for Electronic Pressure Control. It is an electrically controlled solenoid that regulates mainline pressure inside the trans. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) solenoid is known to be problematic, and erratic, causing your vehicle's symptoms of neutralling out,and slamming back into gear. The other area is the Forward piston inside the Forward/3rd gear input drum. The steel piston gets a ridge worn into it,and when it tries to apply at a stop light upon taking off,the ridge causes the piston to hang up momentarily, and then when it frees up,again,a neutral/slam into gear.Common problem that i have had to address over and over on these transmissions.Good luck.
