SOURCE: chirpping noise coming from the ABS system, why?

HBB- hydralic brake booster
there was a recall for that - check you local dealer with VIN. I had the same thing, but somehow mine didn't fall under that even though the symptoms were as described by recall - as soon as you touch brake pedal it chirps. some metal baffle inside corroded and it's loosing the pressure
i ended up paying dealership $300 part and labour about 3-4 hrs.

SOURCE: abs brakes chirping noise, when pedal depressed,

worn out brake pads and slightly warped rotors. Most brake pads have small steel tabs that touch the rotor at a 90 degree angle when it is time for replacement. if you keep driving on the worn pads, it will stop chirping but that just means the tabs (also called wear indicators) have broken off and repair is about to get very pricey.

SOURCE: abs brakes chirping noise, when pedal depressed,

I have the same 'chirping' noise on a 2002 Montero. And NO, it's not brake pads. The noise is there when the vehicle is NOT in motion. It makes that noise when you depress the brake pedal even with the motor not running.
Driving down the road, you can travel miles and never hear the noise until you put on the brakes. But you don't necessarily have to depress the brake for the noise to happen. It's like a sequence of 4-5 chirps in a row. There is no pulsing in the brakes like the ABS is operating. But the noise is directly in the vicinity of the ABS pump.

Sounds like you have an air lock in your distribution block or it could be a bad distribution block all together. Sometimes you can tap it lightly and the air lock will bleed out. Also check your vacuum booster. If it is real hard to press the brake petal down, with the motor running, the vacuum booster diaphragm is blown, or there is a vacuum leak in the line to the booster. Pull the vacuum line off the booster with the engine running to see if there is vacuum to the booster, this will likely make the engine stall out if the booster is working properly. A little trick I do when bleeding my brakes is take about 16 inches of clear tubing that fits the bleeder, then get a quart Mason jar stick the tubing that is attached to the bleeder into the jar, then add about and inch of brake fluid to the jar and start pumping the petal. Always keep an eye on the jar and your master cylinder as to not let the master cylinder run out, or the jar to overflow. Hope this helps, good luck. If I think of something else I'll do another post.

A rattle somewhere between the brake pedal and the maste cylinder. Brakes and all busings between master cylinder and wheel have been checked and rebuilt, struts need replacing but the rattle is not

Hi , I cant think of anything between the pedal and booster that would cause this noise, does the steering wobble ? if so could be something in that system , wheel bearings ok ? this is a tough one to diagnose without hearing it

Brake pedal has alot of back pressure and car moves in gear.Have to press real hard to stop. How to check abs pump if has one where or brake booster or master cylinder?Don't know how to trouble shoot or...

The air seeping is a dead giveaway. Your power brakes are now manual brakes, but stiffer. The diaphram in the brake booster has torn and the hissing noise is the engine vacuum escaping (you hear it louder when you depress the pedal right?). Replace the booster and you will be fine. The brake lights probably don't work because you can't push the pedal down far enought to release the switch. Please rate. Thanks.

I have a 1998 chevy s10 it has a good brake pedal with the engine off but with it running the pedal go'es to the floor and you can hear air at brake booster

Check for fluid leaks and your brakes. If you see no leaks and your brakes are in good shape replace the brake master cylinder and bleed the system. The air you hear is because the pedal went to the floor. If the booster goes bad the pedal will get so hard you can hardly push it at all. I think you will find if this happened suddenly either you have a major leak or the master cylinder went bad.

Air/Hissing Noise from Brake Pedal

this noise is caused by a defective power brake vacuum booster, (big round thing behind the master cylinder) the diaphragm is leaking vacuum.

Most likely your vacumn power brake booster has failed. It is not rebuildable. You will need to buy a new one.
