The cover is plastic welded on, u can't remove it without destroying the headlight, the kits are to refinsh and polish the outside of the lens not the inside, u will need to replace the headlight assembly

My 320D which I bought new in 2005 about two years ago both front headlights started to appear "faded" on the outside, almost as though scouring had taken place. They have deteriorated seriously...

This is caused by ultraviolet light from the sun. Ozone in the air does not help either.
There are two types of product that are intended to remove the most oxidized layer from the surface of the plastic. There are mild abrasive polishes that you apply with a rag and a lot of work, and there are kits that have sandpaper disks that you use with a drill.
In your case, those lenses probably came with a plastic film on the outside of the headlight lens. That film is tough. I have removed it with a sandpaper kit and a drill, but it took all afternoon.

How to remove the lens cover (headlights) in order to clean them

Those assemblies are not meant to come apart. You can purchase a head light resurfacing kit at Auto Zone or any other Auto parts stop. It takes a little time but it works well.

How do I remove the plastic from the headlight assembly??

These headlamp housings are sealed and not meant to come apart. There is a headlamp polishing kit that is sold in most auto parts stores that is used with a low speed drill to polish the fog and glaze out of the plastic lens using 3 or 4 steps of fine gritted paper with a polishing compound to finish the job. If the housing has water in it or is very dirty inside there isn't a whole lot you can do to get that out of there short of replacing it. Hope this helps a bit!

I have dirty headlight covers and want to remove them to see if they can be cleaned. I have a 2001 Impala

Novus products worked for me. There are three strengths. No. 1 is a general
spray cleaner. No. 2 is a fine scratch remover that requires some elbow grease.
I find rinsing it as I work it in helps speed up the process. The yellowing and
small scratches are caused by ozone and sand blowing in the air. This product
won't make it factory new but it will give a much better cleaning than any other
product I've found. I've saved many friend's the expense of changing their
headlights.
Don't use windex or dishsoap on headlight plastic. They have ammonia in them
and causes microsopic pitting and fractures in clear plastic.
I bought my Novus products on line, saved gas running around trying to find it.

How 2 change head light bulb on a 2000 z24

To change the bulbs in the headlights,(on a 2002 Z24) you need to remove the plastic splash cover the extends the width of the car over the headlights by removing the plastics pins that hold it in . Pull up on the center of the pins to remove them. Once the cover is off, remove the two bolts that hold the headlight in, then place a screwdriver into the slot for the parking light lens to pop the clip loose that holds the lens in place. The headlight assembly can then be removed, once the wire harness is unplugged from the bulb. There is a round retainer that locks the bulb into place. Rotate the retainer counter clockwise and remove the bulb. Don't touch the bulb surface as oil from a person's hands can cause premature failure. Just reverse these dirctions to reinstall the rest of the parts. This may sound difficult, but it really isn't. I hope this helps out some fellow z owners.
