Try to flush or clean it before you give up. There may be debris in one of the small ports.

It sounds like it's your shift sensor or the trans overall

2006 dodge grand caravan transmission fluid low but cannot find a leak

check your rear main seal. Also try changing your trans fluid, trans filter, and your transmission pan seal. I recommend you put lucas transmission oil in it and a quart of the Lucas Stop Slip and leak sealer

Ford f250 2005 transmission how do you check the fluid and how many quarts do I use?

22's answer as to location is correct. Check the fluid after the vehicle has warmed up and with the engine running. Check your manual for fluid type if any is required (should be type "F"). Do not overfill as it will not help. If fluid is a qt low you ahould check transmission lines going from radiator to the tranny as there is a leak somewhere. Also look around the transmission pan for leaks. Slipping of the transmission is the most obvious indicator of low fluid, stepping on the gas but the transmission doesn't push you faster. Hope this helps. GT

Jeep stopped, transmission fluid is very low. Could that be the reason it stopped ?

Though most transmissions hold about ten quarts of fluid, the last quart and a half are very critical.
At about one quart low you'd begin to get slipping or disengagement on turns and below that most often the vehicle won't move or will slip severely. Always check fluid level with the engine at operating temp, running, trans in park, vehicle on a flat level surface.
Check and add using dexron III/ mercon fluid and look underneath and check to see where it's leaking
After repairing the leak (if it's a line etc) top off using lucas sealer and conditioner.(that will help if you glazed any internal clutches and will also help with any minor external seal leaks)
If you find a large leak, I suggest you bring it to a shop and have that repaired.
The amount of fluid loss and the length of time you drove it that way will determine how much internal damage was done. In most cases, what I said will get you back on the road but if you did major damage, the only solution is a replacement or rebuild.
Good luck!!

1996 Lexus es 300, transmission is slipping. It started just with a little shaking when I was taking off at a red light. Now a few weeks later its gotten much worse. Finally it stopped shifting at all...

Depending on the amount of damage done driving it low on fluid you may be able to salvage more use out of it. The first thing you gotta do is change the filter and gasket inside the transmission pan. Check the owners manual and be sure to replace it with the correct type and amount of automatic transmission fluid. It might even help to get your local mechanic or parts store to recommend the best transmission additive available. After and only after you've done all this. You wait until low traffic time and drive it in the immediate area until such time as you can tell that it's shifting and not slipping at all. If it has "any" slip it will only continue to get worse. Don't let anyone sell you some 6 buck a quart fluid for the change unless that's the only one the manufacturer recommends. Good luck. This repair, if you are mechanically inclined and have a suitable jack to safely get under the car to change the filter, shouldn't be bank breaking. You may have to go to your local mechanic. But even a hundred or so is better than the pocket emptying transmission overhaul.

Trans-axle fluid cooling ,all fluid gone

If the trans. fluid gets down , even a quart, it usually starts to slip or not shift right. Check the fluid with the engine running and warmed up on level ground (in park). If it's low start adding fluid about 1/2 a quart at a time and keep checking it. Watch for leaks while you're filling it. If no leaks are found take it for a test drive and check the fluid again.

Transmission is slipping and making a winding sound

Hi, this is a low fluid issue or, you may have ran it dry, in return, causing gear damage. check the fluid level asap and, if it is low or dry, you will need to add fluid asap.

This may be corrected by just adding fluid but, it may have damaged the internals due to the heat generated by the low lubricant situation.
