IT's bad ignition lock cylinder.
The procedure is for replacing an ignition key tumbler kit in a Chevrolet Impala made year until 2007.

With a small screwdriver depress the retaining pin, rotate and pull the tumbler assembly from the sensor housing.

The retaining pin can be seen in the picture below. It is the angle piece pointing down. Before further disassembly place your thumb on the locking bar and take the key in and out of the tumbler assembly so that you can get a feel for how the locking bar should drop into position when the key is inserted. This is helpful to know later when assembling the new tumbler.
The retaining bar will have to be removed.
Use a small screwdriver to pry it out of the housin06 chey impala my key - 1538fd3.pngimg src="" alt="1538fd3.png" class="h_mi" />
After the bar is removed, ta06 chey impala my key - e405d16.pnghe springs out.

Make yourself a chart so that you can write down the numbers that are on the individual tumblers and keep track of their positions in the tumbler housing. This is your key code. You can get this code from your dealer if you ne06 chey impala my key - 54d7e05.pngou will have to show a photo id and proof of vehicle ownership.
The original tumblers are brass colored and 06 chey impala my key - 8348c41.pngments are silver colored. There are numbers stamped on each one and they range from 1-4
In particular, if you have never do06 chey impala my key - 613cd35.pngore and do not have any spare parts, make sure that the package is unopened. This will save you a lot of grief.
Install the new tumblers in the proper order and check with the06 chey impala my key - 342008d.pnge sure that the locking bar drops in evenly when the key is fully inserted and the tumblers are pushed in to make contact with the key.
If the bar does not drop in evenly you have either assembled incorrectly or your key is worn out.

Install the new retaining bar.
Install the new spring and angled retainer. Not shown but it should go in the square h06 chey impala my key - 6fd8359.png pointing down at the right hand side of the tumbler housing. ac06504.png
Insert supplied grease into the tumbler assembly and install in the new sensor housing.
There are detailed instructions that come with the kit you should read and fully understand before actually attempting this repair.

Key cant turn ignition

Have you tried a spare key ? The lock could be damaged or have excessive force applied from the shifter or steering wheel.

Chevy Impala Door lock issue

Which is it, 98 Eclipse, or 06 Impala? Either way, your door lock actuator is stuck in the locked position either electrically or mechaically. The way to check this is to remove the door panel and unplug the actuator. If door lock can now be moved then you have an electrical problem (faulty door lock switch or faulty door lock module). If you still cannot unlock door then actuator is mechanically bad and must be replace (usually the case)

I can't start my car

Your ignition sounds locked to me. Try turning the steering wheel hard to the left or right or tugging while you try turning the key. I bet it will unlock. The car isnt broken, its actually a safety feature.,

Trunk wont open

MY 06 Impala tunk would not open using my key fob, or the trunk button on my car . IF you own this vehicle you know that there is no manual keyhole on the trunk. I had to remove my back seat . It is held on by two bolts. In the trunk on the trunk lid is an emergency release handle. Once the trunk is open you need to remove the lock mechanism. Take a test lightand check the wire harness. If you are getting power to the harness and the lock still does not work, you need to replace it. GM wanted 189 for a new lock mechanism, i went to a auto scrap yard. they didnt have an 06 impala, but they did have an 06 malibu. they use the same lock system.the wire connectors for the harnesses look different but it fits fine. the only drawback is my convenience light in my trunk does not work when the trunk is open. only cost 15 bucks for the part.
