Might be your linkage arm between the bottom of the shifter and the transmission.

Are you on an incline? If so try rocking your vehicle forward and backward with others helping you. Your transmission may be bound. While the vehicle is rocking you should be able to shift the transmission into neutral.

The first thing to do is check the brake lights, it they are not working the park lock system will not release the shifter.

I doubt the problems are connected.
The check engine light could be anything including the loose gas cap.
But if that was the only problem it would not keep the truck from moving.
If it starts and runs, but won't go into gear, something has happened to the transmission or axle.
You may have to get it towed to a shop to find out what the trouble codes are in the computer.

I would guess that something inside of the transmission has failed and there is no longer a mechanical connection between the motor and the drive axles regardless of what gear you attempt to move in.[sheared splines, broken planetary, etc.] Often when this happens you won't hear any kind of noise because of the failed parts being inside the transmission case...instead the car just won't go anymore. You could have a CV drive axle joint that has failed but generally they will make some noticable rattling or grinding noise as they churn away when you try to go forward or reverse. If something has failed inside of the transmission then the transmission will need to be removed and repaired. It if is just a drive axle joint that has failed then that can be replaced without doing anything to the transmission. Hope this helps and good luck!

It sounds like a problem within the front differential, possibly broken spider gears. If so broken gear shrapnel may be jamming that wheels output shaft.

I can't put the gear in when I press the brake

You can try having someone rock the car back and forth while you are trying to shift. Sometimes, when a car is parked on an incline, which I can only assume by your problem, the parking pin gets pinched in. Pushing the car forward and backward while you shift will give you what you need to get it out of park.

If this is not the problem, please feel free to respond back and together we will get you rollen.

Good Luck!

Possible tranny problem. If your linkage from shifter to tranny is adjusted properly and your shifter gear needle is right on the PRND21 then it is likely your transmision
