Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Open Question

2000 Beetle - Won't START

I bought this Red 2000 VW Beetle ($5600) for my teenage daughter back in August 2007. The car is loaded with 6-changer CD, heated leather, moonroof, and power everything. Sounds good, doesn't it? My daughter HATES (with a passion) and I do mean "HATES" this car! It starts when it wants to and then just dies whenever it feels like not starting. The dealership changed the "ignition coil" - ($300), "battery" - ($114), and "alternator" - ($179). Still, they do not know what the problem is; however, they want me to continue bringing my checkbook, uh, I mean that stupid a$$ car back for work to be done that is not necessary! I totally give up! I, too HATE this car! I HATE it so much that I am selling it as fast as I can get an offer!! I refuse to put any more money into this volkswagen. I don't think that I will EVER buy another VW again! Oh, and by the way, my teenage daughter is now driving a 2001 PT Cruiser (CHRYSLER) and you know what else? No starting problems!!!

There's another reason to sell the car. It's not really appropriate for a teenager. There are large blind spots on a Beetle, particularly for someone around 5'3-5'6". Ask someone of this height to sit in the car and then walk around the front of the car. They will completely lose you in the corners. As I turn left in my car, I can lose entire large vans and trucks. I've had experienced driver friends who refuse to drive my car because of the blind spots. It simply isn't something you should ever have a new driver driving.

Finally, I have electrical gremlins as well. Weeks after I bought the car, it would stay running after the key was removed. It's not really a sticky key tumbler, either -- that's been checked and checked. I've also had numberous situations where the dash lights up like a christmas tree. This was solved when I brought the car in for a brake light recall (brake light!?). I think they clearly must have reset some firmwear in that brake light recall...

I have the same problem with my 2003 VW Beetle.... I HATE my car too. I have had nothing but trouble and COST since the day I drove it off the lot. As soon as I get it started I am driving as fast as I can to trade it in.

The CD on my 1999 vw beetle drains the battery when the car is shut off. What would cause this? Is it fixable or do I need a new CD changer?

Check to see if power is on even with the key off. if so you need to wire it to a place on the fuse panel that powers up when you move the key to acc on the ignition.

Fuse box diagram for a 2000 vw beetle

There should be a diagram in your Owner's Manual. I have one for my daughter's 1998 Beetle that should be the same as in the 2000 Beetle. Can email it to you if you post an email address that I can send it to.

I have a 2000 beetle with fixing in the boot for cd changer...will any changer do, not sure what i should be looking for! Thanks

Likely have a Monsoon radio system in your 2000 Beetle. The CD changer is controlled by your radio, and not any CD changer will connect to the outlet in your trunk. You can either find a CD changer on eBay (or elsewhere, or swap out your radio for a radio from a newer VW Beetle that has a CD player installed instead of the cassette. Can also find those on eBay.

2007 nissan maxima will not load or eject CD's...or even play the

Hi, this is a common issue within car CD changers. the load motor go through lots of trauma during the life span that i usually 3 to 5 years. the load motor operates everything in the changer. it works the load tray and spinning of the disc as well. when this motor is out, the changer will be rendered useless. replacing the load motor will fix this issue or, you can just purchase a new changer and save a lot of money.
