Question about Jaguar S-Type

I have an air leak at the back of the engine right against the firewall, cannot locate what is leaking (sucking noise)

You can do a smoke test. Light a piece of paper and put it out. get the smoke close to were you hear the sound. It should draw the smoke in the direction of the leak.

O2 dodge dakota sounds like it sucking air at low rpms

Most likey is just the sound of air being sucked into throttle body. Some vehicles make louder noises like that especially if it has an aftermarket cold air intake. Because the air filter box muffles that sound. It's possible that it has a vacuum leak as well which can make a sucking noise if it's large enough. Usually a large vacuum leak will affect the way an engine runs though

Do you have to add fluid occasionally? If so, it is a leak, albeit a slow one, which means a rotted line or a leaky wheel cylinder... maybe even a master. If you see fluid, a light, clear oil on the ground, that's a good indicator. ALSO- lift the carpet on the driver side and look for a leak from the master cylinder into the car. (That one is often overlooked.)
If no leaks, look at the big hose that comes off the engine and into the power boost on the firewall and behind the master cylinder. A vacuum leak makes a hissing or sucking noise and reduces braking capacity

How to easily find a leak in an inlet manifold ?

Any vehicle will run poorly with an intake manifold leak. One easy way to test for a leak is to (while the engine is still fairly cool) spray carb and choke cleaner/starting fluid around the base of the intake. You only need a small amount: if there is a leak in between the manifold and the heads, your RPMs will increase until the engine sucks all the carb cleaner in.

There's no way to adjust idle from set factory specs.sounds like you might have a vacuum leak or sensor concern. Is service engine light on? I would check the main vacuum connection at the rear of the motor on the drivers side near Lynn he firewall, all around the airbox and air tube going into throttle body. They're known for bad vacuum leaks at various places around might be able to hear it if you have someone start and slightly hold throttle open and listen for a whistle or sucking noise. .

Leaking antifreeze

freeze plugs pressed out by coolent not suffencient to stop freezing at your local temp. Reinstall freeze plug and look for more that may have been forcedout. common locations are sides of engine, and there are some in the very rear against the firewall.. head or engine removal neccessary.

96' Chevy K1500 Brakes are hard to press, but u hear a lot of air coming out, if i hold the brakes down for too long the truck cuts off.

It sounds like a problem with the brake booster, the air diaphragm that gives you power brakes. It is located right behind the brake master cylinder and mounted to the firewall.
Check the large vacuum hose to it for leaks. If the air is coming out of the unit itself, it will need replacing.
It will stop the engine because with a large air leak, the engine just sucks in way too much air. Hard brakes are also an indication that the booster is not working right. But check the hose first for leaking.

Locating inertia switch

This switch is located behind the

service panel on the right side of

the cargo area.

To reset the switch:

1. Turn the ignition OFF.

2. Check the fuel system for leaks.

3. If no leaks are apparent, reset the

switch by pushing in on the reset


4. Turn the ignition ON.

5. Wait a few seconds and return

the key to OFF.
6. Make another check for leaks.

Why does my 2001 Ford Escort run rough and often die at an idle but seems fine oncethe RPMs are up?

There are two likely possibilities. One is a leaking vacuum line. Inspect the vacuum hoses closely. Listen for any tell-tale hissing sound. Oftentimes the culprit is the hose going from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. It is susceptible to cracking. While you're at it, check the condition of the PCV valve.

The other possibility is a faulty Idle Air Control (IDAC) valve. If the IDAC is not opening sufficiently, the engine will idle rough or die at idle. Try removing the IDAC entirely, so the air intake is open. If the engine idles ok with the IDAC removed, replace it with a new IDAC.

If neither one of these possibilities checks out, you will need further trouble-shooting.

Air leak

2 ways.
Use a piece of flexible hose and hold one end to your ear and probe around with the other end until you hear the loud air rush noise in your ear. Be careful around moving parts.

Or, spray some carb cleaner in short bursts around the engine until you hear the engine rpms rise as it sucks the cleaner in the vacuum leak location. good luck.

My ford focus 04 auto makes a grinding noise when the steering is on full lock to the right also the power steering fluid gets low very quickly

you have a power steering leak, when in full lock position the power steering pump is actually sucking in air and this is your noise. you will have to locate the leak and replace the leaking part and fill it to proper level.Ford will accept trans fluid for power steering fluid.
