Question about Honda Accord

Just relaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, head gasket on 1995 honda accord lx non v-tec. Inside of throttle bodies was grimey black. Cleaned out with cleaner, now car will run for only 5-10 seconds and shut down. Bought car a few days ago after it had sat for awhile. Could it be fuel filter problem.Car has 159,000 miles.

If you apply the accelerator pedal can you keep the car running until warmed up? If yes, then this sounds like a idle air control (IAC) valve issue. If it is the IAC then even when warmed up you will notice the engine labour when the car is shifted into gear or when the power steering is engaged. You mentioned that the interior of the throttle was dirty and the IAC is located on the back of the throttle body. Its purpose is to allow air past the closed throttle plate at idle to ensure that enough is let through to keep the engine running. Disconnect the IAC electrical connections and undo the screws that hold t to the back of the throttle. Take care that you do not let the screw driver slip off the heads and damage them; apply a lot of pressure whilst unscrewing initially. Use a clean paint brush, a cloth and WD40 in combination, really clean and soak the valve. Just as you did with the throttle interior, get everything clean like new. The whole job should take no longer than an hour at most and it is just a process of cleaning so little or no cost. Put everything back and reconnect the electrical plug and it should work. Once you have the car running properly look up on youtube ways to clean your Accord EGR (exhaust gas recirculation* valve. This is most likely your next engine related interior cleaning job but ericthecarguy has a very good detailed video concerning this aspect of engine maintenance. Once all the interior passageways have been cleaned the Honda should give many years of faithful service.

Start with a routine tune-up. New air filter, new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor button. Make sure the sparkplugs are gapped correctly before installing. Plug wires are less likely to go bad, so I would hold off on that.

1995 honda accord v6 tack jumps sometimes, but sometimes fine.

It is what you call hunting. Carb or throttle body injection?. more than likely TBI. Could be the throttle position sensor,The mass air flow sensor, fuel pressure regulator. have the fuel pressure ck'd first.. then the throttle position sensor. then the maf sensor. Have the maf sensor cleaned, They are very expensive. Make sure the air cleaner is clean, clean. it and the maf work together. - good luck, Ned

1992 Honda Accord LX won't start - ignition problems

I would remove the distributor cap and crank the engine over . If the rotor does not turn , then you need to replace the timing belt. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 60 K. If the rotor turns then make sure you have spark to a spark plug. Run a compression test on each cylinder. The basics to run are compression, spark, fuel and timing.
