Sounds like air in system. Bleed entire system starting at master cylinder, and check for any brake fluid leaks.

Need to know procedure for bleeding master cylinder and lines.


There is a special pump used to bleed the master cylinder first then after the master cylinder is installed you bleed the brakes and fill as you go it's a two-man operation

you have someone helping you right? cuz you cant do it yourself, and the brakes need to be pumped only enough to get a solid midway stop of pedal travel, and with the brake still depressed by your assistant, you open the bleeder a bit until the pedal goes to the floor, you tighten bleeder, they then release brake pedal and pump it up again, rinse, repeat, until there is no spongy feel in brake pedal

Vw golf 2000 the brake pedal is to soft when you apply it and seems like is not going to stop but it does, what is the problem?

BRAKE BOOSTER INSPECTION

Functional test:
1. With the engine stopped, Depress the brake pedal several times, then depress the pedal hard and hold that pressure for 15 seconds. If the pedal sinks, the master cylinder, brake line or a brake caliper is faulty
2. Start the engine with the pedal depressed. If the pedal sinks slightly, the vacuum booster is working. If the pedal height does not vary, the booster or the check valve is faulty

Leak Test:
1. Depress the brake pedal with the engine running then stop the engine. If the pedal height does not vary while depressed for 30 seconds, the vacuum booster is OK. If the pedal rises, the booster is faulty
2. With the engine stopped, depress the brake pedal several times using normal pressure. When the pedal is first depressed, it should be low. On consecutive applications, the pedal height should gradually rise. If the pedal position does not vary, check the booster check valve.

Check valve test:
1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose at the booster.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. There should be a vacuum available. If no vacuum is available, the check valve is not working correctly. Replace the check valve and retest.

Just asked how ti fix my issues with the brake problems I am having


When you say leaking off, I assume the pedal is soft or goes to the floor when depressed. Since all of the major brake system components have been changed, the brake lines are the next suspect. DO you notice any loss of brake fluid from the reservoir? Do you see any fluid leak on the ground or at the wheels?

I have a 2004 Land cruiser and changed the right rear brake cyl and brake shoes . What is the proper procedure to bleed the rear brake system. Thank you for your help.


  1. Check the fluid level in the reservoir after bleeding each wheel. Add DOT3 fluid, if necessary.
  2. If the master cylinder was disassembled or if the reservoir becomes empty, bleed the air from the master cylinder as follows:
    1. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
    2. Slowly depress the brake pedal and hold it.
    3. Block off the outlet plug with your finger, and release the brake pedal.
    4. Repeat 3 or 4 times.

  3. Bleed the brake starting with the one furthest from the reservoir and then the next furthest, etc.
  4. Depress the brake pedal several times, then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal held down.
  5. At the point when fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.), then release the brake pedal.
  6. Repeat until all the air in the fluid has been bled out.
  7. Repeat the procedure to bleed the air out of brake line for each wheel.
  8. Check the fluid level and add DOT3 fluid if necessary.

Brakes on a 2005 rangers pads and rotors changed 10 months ago. brakes stop car but after the stop the brake pedal gets spongy and depresses further and makes a noise


You more than likely have a master cylinder going out. Also check the backs of your wheels (front and back) for fluid indicating a leaky cyclinder.

most likely your master cylinder is acting up try to press hard on your break for a period of time and see if the pedal will sink/replace master

Sounds like your master cylinder is shot. Go to a parking lot, stop, and pump the pedal a bunch of times. Then get out and see if there is any fluid leaks by any of the wheels. That would indicate a brake line leak. My first guess, however, is your master cylinder.

1998 chevy s10- brake pedal goes to the floor- just changed master cylinder, brake booster, and bled brake lines- did not help


Ok the BRAKE BOOSTER is ONLY there to give you pwer assisted, otherwise NO POWER BRAKES. ( not anything to do with the low brake pedal ) Hopefully the junkyard master cylinder was in better shape than your original. AS far a bleedinda system, heres what I do. First with a1998 vehicle, I would go to ALL 4 wheels , OPEN & CLOSE slightly each bleeder to insure none of them are FROZEN, and they do freeze shut ENSUE THE MASTER CYLINDER IS FULL and CLOSED Now with an assistant sitting in the drivers seat, ready to pump the brakes, and ABLE TO HEAR YOU. Go to the furthest wheel from the master which would be the R/R. DONT touch anything yet. Tell the asst too slowly pump the brake pedal till it gets hard, and then HOLD THE PEDAL DOWN ( and dont let up on it until the pedal drops. If the ast lets up before the bleeder is closed you **** in air.Repeat at each wheel til the pedal stays hard. Hope this helps

I just put new calipers on my jeep and anew master cyclinder when i pump the brakes and bleed the front calipers and release the pedal the fluid leeks back into the master cyclinder


Did u bleed the master cylinder before u installed it? If not, you'll have to also bleed the rear brakes. starting w/ the bleeder the farthest away, to next greatest distance,etc til u get to the closest bleeder.
If u did bleed the master cyl. before installation, I'm wondering if u did the following:
have someone pump the brakes (3 times, don't mash the pedal to the floor, just gentle push no more than half way down 3 times, while holding pedal half way down 3rd pump, open bleeder, when fluid or air slows coming out, close bleeder, and repeat, until only clean fluid flows. And of course, don't let the fluid get too low in the master cyl, or you will **** in air and have to start all over. Let me know how you do. countrycurt0
