Hi:
Often this problem is caused by a filmy build up on the windshield. It could be from any kind of natural source, but often you need to go to great lengths to make your windshield squeaky clean.

Try wiping down the windshield with a soft cloth, soaked in a mild detergent...Nothing abrasive.

Then after that, use a high quality glass cleaner solution, such as windex, and go from there.

Hope this helps

What cause auto wiper to fail when wet and work properly when dry?

Can really be only 1 of 2 things, your wiper blade itself it old and not resilient or the "hinge" where the wiper arm pivots is partially ceased and not keeping the blade against the window. To restore the wiper blade wipe Downy fabric softener on the rubber blade or lubricate the wiper arm pivot point.

Intermittent rough idle

Possible dirty throttle body/plate. Start at the parts store and get Throttle body cleaner. While you are there get some Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner (both very specific and should not be interchanged) and clean them both. Good idea to clean these from time to time. I do this as part of my fall routine...new air filter, oil change, wiper blades.

New mercedes C200 with wiper blade shudder

Even though you say your C200 is new, the wiper blades could be defective. Also, there could be something on the windshield such as car wash residue or something splashed on the windshield during normal driving. If there is a streaky effect without clean wiping, I would suspect one of the causes I've noted

When it rains my wiper blades smear my winshield !!!My friends car does the same thing ..Wats wrong do we need to replace r blades again (they r only 6 months old )????

most likly all it is, is your wiper blades have oil on them from the road when it rains and the car in front of u is throwing water in your windsheild. have u tried to wipe the blades off with a rag, then turn them on with the mist for the window and then u will more than likly have to wipe the blades again

2004 Jeep rain sensing wipers continue to run regardless of setting or amount of rain

a couple of thoughts:
Has your windshield just been replaced?
The sensor is up by the rear view mirror, is it plugged in all the way?
Do you have the right size wiper blades on your vehicle? (too short of a blade misses the rain sensor and does not wipe it clean)
How good are your blades? ( as above, to turn off the rain sensor the blade needs to wipe it clean)
The rain sensor works by projecting multiple inferred beams to the inside of the windshield, like a prism, they reflect back to collectors. when there is a water droplet on the outside of the windshield it changes a beams trajectory and it misses the collector thust turning on the wipers.
(yes, this all happens in that little sensor up by the rear view mirror.)
check to make sure the wiper switch is in the right position.
also....I've seen rain sensors not work properly when the hood or doors are open.
hope this helps

Wipers work fine until it rains then intermitient setting stops

This appears to be wear and tear of the Interval Timer Relay, for the Intermittent wipe cycle.

Wiper Motor Problem!

this is not a fix but might keep you alive if you get stuck in the rain again. try Rain X you wipe it on your windshelid then wipe it off. water just slides off and fast. I have used the stuff for ten years now.
