a most likely cause would be a low or nearly dead battery, or a loose battery connection.
A quick check would be to turn on ;your headlight switch and see if the headlights come on. If so, do they go out when you try to start the car?
If you can get someone to give your car a jump, and it starts, then you should have your starting/charging system checked out, as you most likely have a bad battery or alternator.
