Question about 2006 Pontiac G5

1 Answer

I have a 2006 pontiac pursuit (g5) and when you turn the steering wheel past center from either direction the steering wheel makes a clicking sound that is loud enough to hear any where in the car. It does not do this all the time but about 70 percent of the time. As well sometimes the steering wheel is off center to go straight but after a few turns in the oppisite direction it (the steering wheel) straightens out to be centered to go straight again. please help!!

IF YOUR PONTIAC HAS ELECTRIC OR ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING, THEN IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE MISSING TEETH/DAMAGED GEAR INSIDE THE ELECTRICAL STEERING ASSEMBLY. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE NOISE AND THE OFF CENTER STEERING CONCERN.

? General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars

DETROIT (Reuters) – General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.
U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on January 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury.
The recall covers the 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico, GM said in a statement.
GM said it told the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the voluntary recall on Monday after concluding its own investigation that began in 2009.

Remove ignition

There is currently an open recall on the 2006 Pontiac G5 that concerns the ignition switch - you should contact a GM dealer to see if your vehicle qualifies, if it does you can have it fixed at no charge

2009 Pontiac G5 won't shut off. Key will not turn.

The pontiac G5 has a defect on some of them that need a new ignition switch. I just had to get mine replaced because mine did the exact same thing. If you remove the fuse it will not fix the problem!

Front End Rattling in 2006 Pontiac Pursuit

Sounds like a body weld issue ( as this is a unitized body design). Several US GM models prone to this. No real good cure.
