Why does my condenser? keep going bad my truck wont start again

I'd gues youve got a petrol engine in your truck....These days we're getting a lot of sub standard parts where \i am, I wonder if its not the same for you?....If you intend keeping your vehicle, go electronic....Take out the contact breakers and convert to solid state. You'll get better millage and better dependability....Regards Johngee

    what is a petrol engine ? petroleum? Any way I have an after market 390 engine in a 1976 ford F150 it has about 85-90,000 miles on it ( solenoid / solenoid) that keeps going bad " i couldnt remember what the name of it was it just came back to me still can't spell it lol I've gone through 4-5 I think in the last few years it often wont shut off until we hit it with a tool I think is what he does and sometimes wont start until we hit it and other times not at all. we replaced it with one of the few we've taken off and it still wouldn't start but it took a charge now it seems to be fine i don't know if it is related but coincidently when its been idling for a long time and we put it into neutral for a few min. then turn it off is when it wont start its done that 3 times now that i can recall ? wonder if there is a ;link to problem with it ?

  • I thought you were talking about a petrol or gas type engine and having problems with the condencer fitted onto the distibuter,,,,

    Now I've got a better idea of your problem. Does the starter whine and spin at all without engaging? If yes you could be having a problem with the ring gear. The bendix may be getting stuck into the ring on the flywheel....Another alternative would be a short circuit which is holding the bedix in the engaged position and causing it to stick....A third reason could be the bendix may not be returning because of faulty spring loading or brocken return spring or faulty assembly when fitting the soloniod....The last may be the most likely?....If you can get it off and do some tests on it that would be good....You can put it into a heavy duty bench vice and then carry out some tests....Get some safety googles and use them....If its a twelve volt system use a single battery and if its tweny four, use two connected in series....Ground the starter with agood earth connection....with a vehicle of that age, check and make sure it has a negative grounding, (it may be positive) which ever it has use that ground....I think it'll be negative but I'm not sure....We'll carry on as if it is a negitive ground, but if its positive you'll reverse all the connections....On the soloniod you'll see two large connection toer bolts....One will be going into the starter, the other is a constant from the battery....You can connect the heavy cables being carefull not to short them to ground....after doing that and mounting the starter in a way you can put a heavy 2 X 4 plank of wood to use as a lever against the bendix, connect a light cable from positive and put your googles on....touch the small cable to the small connector on the soloniod and the motor will engage....The soloniod has two coils a throw in and a hold in....If the throw in is defective the bendix wont throw out....If the hold in is defective it'll keep throwing in and out, but won't hold....You can check each coil independently by disconnecting the heavy cable and for no longer than two seconds connect the light cable to the swith side of the soloniod....If it throws out and holds the soloniod should be okay....To check the bushes or bearings in the starter, get your plank of wood and place it where its safe and can't slip and run the starter with the wood pressing onto the bendix....If the motors fine it should not slow down at all even when you use all effort to stop it....If it does, check the brushes and the bushings....Take care and use your safety first principals....Good luck....Regards Johngee

Short need help 96 toyota camry

Test the relais condenser and replace , and test again if the fuse is blown.
Otherwise you must go to the repair shop.
The short is the most difficult are to isolate.
You will need a VOM.

No spark

First and most importantly Check ALL Fuses before money starts being thrown around if all are good. read on
I would start with wit a coil and condenser change this should put you back in running condition.
Providing you had noticed the car when warmed up was sluggish missing and ran poorly or simply quit running when warmed up. This is a sign the ignition coil is going bad or the condenser but it is custom to replace these 2 items together.And replace at the same time. If you need further advice just ask

You may want to have your fan clutch checked. If the fan on your water pump does not spin very hard when the vehicle is idleing than it doesn't draw air through the condenser and that air keeps the condenser cooler plus it keeps the pressure down on the high side of the ac system. leave comment.

I have a 1996 c1500 with a 305 it will start and run for about 3 mins than start running rough and then shut have to wait about an hour before it will start again

Replace the fuel filter first and inspect your ICM (Ignition Control Module). Faulty ICM will fail when it starts to heat up and the engine will do what you have described.
Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and have the ICM tested and replaced if it's bad. The wire leads to the ICM is also know to go bad from corrosion due to condensation that forms under the distributor cap.

Can't get the car started...been sitting a long time (months)tried to jump it using positive spot (battery is in the back seat...who knew?) and an unpainted metal surface...alarm went off...but no...

battery may be wont jump off it its ruined....fuel may have water in it also...condensation will build in tank after a long time of not running.

Check the distributor, it's common for condensation to form under the distributor cap and the wires and Ignition control module may have gone bad due to corrosion. Start with that and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your S 10 running again. Good luck friend.

1991 dodge with a 3.1 ltr engine and it will not start in cold weather, changed the fuel pump and cleared out the fuel lines changed the fuel filter and once again if it go to below 20 it will not...

You could have a bad cold start valve, go to an auto parts store and buy the cold start valve and replace it. you will see it on the intake manifold also pull off the air cleaner or hose and get a can of berry mans carb cleaner and clean the throttle plate inside and out then lube the throttle cables with Wd 40 then try it, if it starts your set, if not try pushing the throttle all the way to the floor and crank for 15 seconds then wait one minute then slightly press the gas pedal and try starting again this is how you clear flooded engine. If it starts you know that the throttle plate or cable froze shut and would not allow air into the engine causing it to flood. also check that the O-ring is not missing on the distributor cap which would allow condensation to form inside the cap shorting out the plugs and allowing it not to run. if it does it again pull the cap and look inside the cap if you see moisture then you need to replace the cap and rotor and O-ring.

Wont start for awhile then will

This veh is a fuel injected veh,you should not have to pump it to start that is done and controled by the computer,you sound like you have a fuel issue,might be bad pump bleeding off after you shut down ,could be a bad fuel regulator.

I keep blowing fuses to my starter

Hi! If this vehicle is having a electronic distributor with the condenser attached to the positive side of the ignitor I think u should check that condenser.This could be and is causinge the fuse to blow when ever u goes to start.I had a problem like this recently.
