Could be a number of things. First I would check electrical. When you say the car won;t start do you mean it has no electrical power? (no lights, radio, starter doesn't crank etc). If so then the main power wire off the alternator may have touched ground and you blew the maxi fuse or damaged the wire. Did you see or smell any smoke coming from the engine area? That is where I would look first. Don't just change a fuse without finding what caused it to blow. Let me know so more info and we will figure it out.

FUEL FILTER,,IF IT IS OLD-REPLACE!
FUEL PUMP NOT REALLY SUSPECT.....BUT POSSIBLE AS IN A THERMAL SHORTING (AFTER A SHORT TIME)
YOU HAVE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THIS DELAYED STALL ISSUE, IS COMING FROM A FUEL OR ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. IE: ELECTRIC CUT OUT...SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER...FUEL ISSUES: ROUGH RU..THEN SHUTS DOWNNING, BUCKING & SURGING

O2 sensors can cause this and often they clear up after a good run.

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units.

I have a 1996 grand am gt v6. While driving this morning the heater fan slowed and the battery light came on. tested the Battery and it was 12.5 vdc not running, but running it was 11.5 vdc. I think it...

Yes it is the alternator, running should have no less then 13.5 volt's, not running your voltage was battery volt's which was good voltage, running was less due to battery running every thing and not the alternator, replace it will be fine.Hope this was very helpful.

Car no longer starts

Check battery terminals make sure they are not corroded and that the are tightly secured. If all is good the battery is at fault. Replace battery and then have charging system checked to make sure the alternator is working fine. Or you can remove the battery and have it load tested a t an Auto_zone for free.
