U can't bleed brakes pads.

Rear passenger brake dosen't work


Are there two brake fluid reservoirs? And are both full? This would be a split-diagonal brake system-front driver and rear passenger are one brake system. Front passenger and rear driver are the other system. You have the one system working-the front passenger and rear driver side works. You will have to keep bleeding the rear passenger side and the front driver side-always start farthest from the master cylinder, but if that wheel just won't bleed air out, make sure the driver front is working and bleeds good. If all else fails, there are pressure bleeder kits available, I don't know the cost, but they work great. They are also a one man bleeding job, as I understand.

Bootscooters@my 1998 s10 blazer keeps wearing out pads on the left rear, after replacing both roaters and both sets of pads.


Sounds like u need to replace your brake caliper on that side. It's engaging but not totally disengaging causing it to wear so fast. Replace the caliper and brake pads and have your brake fluid flushed. At the end make sure they "bleed your brakes". then enjoy many happy miles on the road my friend. A good honest automotive repair shop will, bleed and flush the brake fluid for little to no cost. If your getting them to replace the caliper and pads.

Just changed rear pads and rotors on my 2000 chev blazer..after test driving rear brakes were hot and smoking...brake pads seem to be sticking..are the calipers shot or do I need hoses or both?


  • Well when you looked at the brake pads after your drive were the pads stuck to the rotor?
  • First thing to do is double check your pad and rotor installation.
  • Also check to make sure the right parts were installed.
  • When you pushed back the pistons on your calipers did they flow back nice and smooth? Did they wedge in and get stuck? This would make the pads drag.
  • If you used grease did you get some on the pad by accident? If this is the case it will burn off.

  • How is the car stopping for you? Properly? Do you hear any grinding while driving slow? While driving fast? Over heating rotors will turn a bluish stain. That is when it is really time to be worried.
  • If your brakes are not dragging then give some time for the pads to ware in.
  • If the piston is stuck forcing the pads against the rotor all the time then you need to replace the calipers.
  • Don't forget to bleed the lines afterword.

How to change brake pad and check rotors


Brake Pads Removal & Installation Front for_car_toy_cam_02-04_sst_frt_dsc_asm.gif

To Remove:
  1. Drain brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.
  2. Remove the front wheels. toy_car_cam_frontbrakepads.gif

  3. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
  4. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of the 2 brake pads.
  5. Remove the wear indicator from each of the 2 brake pads.
To Install:
NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press piston into the caliper.
  2. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of each anti-squeal shim.
  3. Install the anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  4. Install the pad wear indicator clip to the pads.
  5. Install the pads with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
  6. Install the brake caliper with the 2 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  7. Install the front wheels.
  8. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  9. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.

To Remove:

  5. Remove the rear brake calipers.
  6. Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.
  7. Remove the anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicators from brake pads.
To Install:
  1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press the piston into the caliper.
  2. Coat both sides of the outer anti-squeal shim with pad grease.
  3. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
  4. Install wear indicators on the 2 brake pads.
  5. Install the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
  6. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  7. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
  8. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
  9. Install the rear wheels.

  1. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the front brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and caliper mounting bracket.

  6. Remove the front wheel disc.
To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the front disc.
  2. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
  3. Install the brake caliper. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the front wheel.
Rear To Remove:
  1. Remove the rear wheels.
  2. Remove the brake caliper assembly.
  3. Remove the brake pads.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.
  5. Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
  6. Remove the rear disc.
To Install:
  1. Align the match marks and install the rear disc.
  2. Install the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the bracket bolt 46 ft-lb (61.8 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the bracket bolt 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
  3. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
    • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
    • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 32 ft-lb (43 Nm)
  4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
  5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
  6. Bleed the brake system.
  7. Install the rear wheel

Vibration in rear of vehicle when braks are applied


I believe that the rear discs are warped or the tires are out of round when braking. More likely, the discs. --- The following are the instructions for replacing the front and rear pads for the front/back rotors. 1999-01 Grand Cherokee Front
  1. Drain 2?3 of the brake fluid from the front reservoir. Use the bleeder screw at the front outlet port to drain the fluid. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, relieve the system pressure.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. Insert a small prybar through the caliper opening and pry the caliper (using the outboard brake pad) to bottom the pistons in the caliper bore. NOTE: This will back the brake pads off of the rotor surface to facilitate the removal and installation of the caliper assembly.
  5. Pry the caliper support spring out of the caliper.
  6. Remove both caliper slide pin bushing caps and slide pins.
  7. Lift the caliper from the anchor.
  8. Using a piece of mechanics wire, support the caliper so there is not tension on the brake hose.

    To install:
  10. Position the brake pads onto the caliper.
  11. Position the caliper into place on the anchor.
  12. Coat the caliper slide pins with silicone grease and torque them to 21-30 ft. lbs. (29-41 Nm). Install the slide pin bushing caps.
  13. Install the caliper support spring in the top of the caliper under the anchor; then, install the other end into the lower caliper hole. NOTE: Hold the spring in the caliper hole with your thumb while prying the spring end out and under the anchor.
  14. Fill the master cylinder with fluid and bleed the brake system.
  15. Before driving the vehicle, pump the brakes several times to seat the pads.
  16. Install the wheels.
Rear

How do you set up new rear calipers on a 1999 mk4 golf


Are the rear calipers already fitted? I will assume not 1) open the hood and locate the brake master cylinder and brake reservoir. Open the filler cap. Put a piece of polythene Supermarket bag will across the opening and tighted the filler cap over it. This will provide a vacuum seal to the reservoir to prevent too much brake fluid loss whilst working on the brakes. 2) Jack up one of the rear wheels and remove it. Loosen by half a turn the flexible brake hose union in the old caliper. Put a piece of towel on the ground beneath the brake assembly to catch any brake fluid. About midway along the hose pinch it closed. It is very important that you use something rounded on both sides to do this to prevent damaging the hose. A self clamping wrench has jaws that are too sharp for the job. If you have a couple of drill bits of about 8mm to 10mm in diameter that you can put one either side of the tube and then set the self clamping wrench to squeeze these on to the hose with moderate force; enough to prevent fluid loss. Slacken now the brake fluid bleed screw in the caliper. Put a broad blade screw driver between the disc and the face of the brake pad and twist to lever the caliper pistons back into the body of the caliper. As you do so brake fluid will be forced out the slackened bleed screw. Remove the brake pads when suitably slackened. Undo the two very large bolts that secure the caliper body to the hub assembly of the car and lift it free. The following process avoids the need of disturbing the top brake pipe union: taking the weight of the caliper in the hand it should be possible to unscrew it from the previously loosened end of the brake hose union end as if it were a massive nut. 3) Fitting the new caliper is matter of again taking its weight in the hand and screwing it on to the brake hose union end. Do it only hand tight initially. Put a light smear of copper ease grease on the back of each pad...do not contaminate the disc or pad face. Copperease between the caliper piston faces and the pad backs prevents brake squeal. Some new pads are supplied with an anti squeal compound to be smeared on the pad backs in which case the Copperease can be omitted. Slip the brake pads into the caliper body and also fit the bleed screw finger tight. Fit the caliper with pads over the disc the disc and insert the mounting bolts. Tighten the large mounting bolts to the specified torque (very very tight). Tighten the hose union end with a spanner and take off the improvised hose clamp. Tighten the bleed screw moderately. 4) Under the hood remove the polythene temporary seal from under the reservoir filler cap. Pump the brake pedal slowly until some resistance is felt. Check the fluid reservoir level and if low top it back up to max. 5)With a 'helper' do the following: have them press on the brake pedal. Undo the caliper bleed screw about a quarter of turn to let the air out and then re- tighten it again. Your helper should only now allow the brake pedal up slowly. Have them press on the pedal again. Again loosen off the bleed screw fractionally to expel air bubbles. Keep repeating this process until brake fluid emerges for some time with absolutely no sign of air bubbles. Your helper should also report that the brake pedal feels hard. Make sure the caliper pitons have extended and that the pads have been pressed hard onto the disc. Tighten the bleed screw securely. 6) Check the reservoir under the hood, the level may have gone down, if so top it up to the max line with brake fluid. 7) repeat steps 1 to 6 on the other side of the car.
As a final check ensure that no polythene has been left beneath the reservoir cap and that the cap is refitted. Check that all clamps have been removed, that brake hose unions, bleed screws and caliper mounting bolts are all tight and that the brake pedal action reaches a point of hard resistance when stood on. Any signs of springy softness in the brakes means that there is still air left in the system that will need further bleeding. Ensure everything is clean and that nothing is leaking. Job done

How do I bleed the front brakes on a 2004 audi a4 quattro?


For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!! For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow: 1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose! 2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper. 3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease). 4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier. 5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston. 6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary! 7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing. 8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward). 9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier. 10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm. 11. Install both caps. 12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

Brakes to the floor(almost) 99 blazer


bleed the brake again. if the pedal goes to the floor with little resistance, then the master cylinder is your problem.
the shim is to depress the noise when you applied the brake. you can skip that, if the brake works without it.

I need to know how to bleed the brakes on a 1999 chevy blazer


Start from right rear, then, left rear, right front, left front. Fill master cylinder. Have helper sit in car, have helper hold brake pedal down. open bleed screw. fluid and air comes out. close screw. release brake pedal. Continue until no air comes out. Move to next wheel. Keep an eye on master cylinder fluid level after each wheel.
