This sounds like the blend door actuator. This is a little door in the vent box down under the passenger side dash that opens and closes to change the vent temperature from heat to a/c. It is a little motor that opens the door. It tends to stop working due to the elements that it is in. I hope this helps!! Thanks!!

98 Saturn SL AC/cooling fan will NOT work

Do not let this car over heat a blown head gasket will ensue. Locate and replace the fan relay, if that doesn't fix the problem unplug fan and use jumper wires to ground the plug then feed power to the positive side of plug to check fan, if that doesn't work replace the coolant temperature sensor located somewhere near the intake manifold or thermostat housing area.

Diverter Fan broke affecting air and heat

it is not you fan ticking. there is a big door in your heaterbox that switches from heat to a/c. alot of times the motor that turns this door gets jammed. if the motor is removed and the door turned manually, turning the car on with the motor {flap motor} removed still , turn the heat to cold, wait for the motor to stop turning, then bolt it back onto flap and you should be fine.mercedes is not perfect, sometimes you have to remove the dash to access this flap motor

Over heating

This may work for you, I'm not sure about your fans, but in a 1992 Ford Ranger when I kept overheating in idle or after turning off it was the heater core, you may want to try bypassing core and you should be fine, of course this is a band-aid fix. You're definitely going to replace the heater core (if that is the problem) and hunt down why your fans are not kicking on for a permanent fix.

No heat

check your coolant level.
If it is fine.. you may have a mouse house built in the fan... the nest blocks the fan blades and causes the fan motor to become unballanced and over worked...
remove the fan/blower motor assembly and clean it out. That should fix ya.
