The speedometer is not working inside the car

Hi, you probably have a broken cable or a bad speedometer..

Check the cable that runs from the gearbox to the dash, (the connection IN the dash looks like a green receptical for a light bulb, its HARD to miss) make sure that it turns properly and that, when in its correct position, turns the small brass coloured part inside the speedo mechanism (the end of the cable should be a square-ish prong that is should insert into a hole in the extreme rear of the speedometer mechanism).
If the unit doesnt work (if the cable is fine and the mechanism bares no apparent defects then you have to replace the speedometer)

My temperature gauge and my fuel gauge arent working and the fuse is is good .... also how hard is it to replace the speedometer cable ?

On replacing the speedometer cable, on a scale of 1 to 10, probably 3 or 4.
Hooking to the transmission, " baby play ", connecting the other end to the speedometer, well that represents the 4.

Ford Festiva 95... Loud squeaking noise while driving, mechanic reckons speedometer cable. IS that True? How do i fix?

If it were the speedometer cable, that he reckons, it would squeak if the grease dried out. Take the speedometer cable out and regrease with the same type.

However, it probably would be easier to replace the cable than to regrease with the 'proper' grease as the manufacturer probably does not publish this data.

I would check other sources for the squeaking, however, like a belt squealing, for instance.

It's hard to determine what is squeaking without actually hearing it.

good luck on this one.

I have an 1992 88 oldsmoblie and my speedometer stop working whats wrong

Unscrew the speedometer cable from the side of the transmisson. Pull the cable out of the transmisson. While someone else sits in the drivers seat and looks at the speedometer you turn the end of the cable quickly. If the speedometer doesn't move the cable is faulty. Replace it
To check the speedometer only disconnect the cable from the speedometer and insert a small screwdriver.Turn the screwdriver quickly. If the speedometer doesn't move then the speedometer is faulty and must be replaced.

Where is the spedometer sensor?

The sensor should be located on the transfer case where the rear drive shaft goes in.It is just above it not hard to miss and there will be a 10mm bolt and a coller holding it in.Make sure you use a new Oring when reinstalling new sensor.

Speedometer is erratic

It sounds like the core of your speedometer cable is rubbing the outer housing. The speedometer cable runs from the inst panel, thru the firewall, and onto the side of the transmission that faces the driver. This is not a hard job to do, but, when replacing the cable, take care to not break the ears off of the part that hooks on to the back of the speedometer.

Replace speedometer calbe

Replace the Speedometer Cable

1 - Remove the old speedometer cable from your car, first take off the doghouse and then the engine cover.

2 - Remove the screw underneath the dashboard and take down the steering column. This will give you access to the back of your speedometer.

3 - Take off the drive shaft bolt, and "O" ring, insert the speedometer cable through the firewall.

4 - Remove speedometer cable securing clamps from the engine compartment and on the transmission.

5 - Release the drive shaft nut from the "right angle" adapter (The nut is attached to the back of the transfer case).

Installing the Speedometer Cable

1 - Place the square end of the speedometer cable into the adapter and secure the drive shaft nut.

2 - Pull the speedometer cable through the firewall to the rear of the speedometer.

3 - Secure the "O" ring and attach the speedometer cable to the rear of the speedometer/odometer. It should be engaged in the speedometer's square hold. Tighten the drive shaft nut again.

4 - Replace the clamps that will secure the speedometer cable onto the transmission and in the engine compartment. Replace the engine cover.

5 - Drive your car slowly to be sure your speedometer is working properly. If it is, replace the doghouse. If you're stilling having problems, take the car to your mechanic.
