Question about 1993 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

I just gave my '93 VW Passat GL a tune up, because the plugs, the distributer, and the button were all bad. The car was misfiring when running, but after the new plugs, wires, distributer, and rotor button, the car wont start. It's turning over, all plugs have plenty of spark, and it's getting gas. Everything seems to be right, and ideas why it wont start?

You may have the firing order wrong or the distributor may have been installed 180 degrees in the wrong position. Just because there is spark doesn't mean it is getting there at the right time. I have done this before and it is easily rectified. Please let me know if this helped! Thanks!!

The vw ngk plugs are pre gapped. If you have a misfire it's more likely either a coil, bad fuel, or a faulty ecm.

How to fix diagnostic code for 1999 vw passat po304 po305 po306

Hi. You have misfires on cylinders 4, 5 and 6. If there are no faults on cylinder 1, 2 and 3 then I would check the power to the left bank injectors. Also check spark plugs and ht leads. If there are running issues then this should be an easy fix. If the faults are very intermitant then it can be a bit tricky to isolate.

I've a 1999 VW passat that misfires and has no power.any clues?

Could use some more data such as:

All the time?
Only hot?
Only when first starts?
Only when wet?
Did it start after after buying cheap gas or adding gas from an old gas can?
How long since last tune up?

I would suspect bad ign wire leaking high voltage or it is not getting to the spark plug OR a fouled plug. Sometimes you can hear the spark SNAPPING to ground or see it at night. Often you can get bad wires to show up by spraying them with a mist of water from an old spray bottle and uptting the car in gear with light acelleration. Make SURE to NOT stand in front of the car while somone is jazzing the gas!!!

Been a while since I have worked on a VW but most often it is plugs and wires.

Hope this helped,
Ken C

Broken vaccume lines could also give you a skip and poor power in some situations.

Hi

If the coolant temperature sensor is of the 4 wire type then these are a common failure on VW's.
