It is right beside the oil filter usually. It has a wire coming out of it also. Unplug & remove it with a deep socket or wrench. Good luck!

Yes it is very possible to leak oil from the sending unit. there is several locations depending on the engine size. Leaking as much as you are it should not be hard to find it.

How do you replace oil sending unit on 1989 chevy corsica 2.8

Buy the replacement part first and whatever tool size fits is going to be apparent.
The oil pressure.temp. sensor looks like a spark plug (kind of) . one wrench... whatever size...
DO NOT overtighten the replacement... it is a tapered threaded sensor ... and will damage the block if overtightened.

1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport hard to start after its warm and fluctuating oil pressure

Hi there:
It sounds like it could be oil pressure sending unit. I would check the connection on the sending unit. Below are the procedures for checking the sending unit, If it checks out good I would have a mechanical gauge set up to measure the pressure.

TESTINGTo test the normally closed oil lamp circuit, disengage the locking connector and measure the resistance between the switch terminal (terminal for the wire to the warning lamp) and the metal housing. The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.To test the sending unit, measure the resistance between the sending unit terminal and the metal housing. The ohmmeter should read an open circuit (infinite resistance).Start the engine.Once again, test each terminal against the metal housing:The oil switch terminal-to-housing circuit should read an open circuit if there is oil pressure present. The sending unit-to-housing circuit should read between 15-80 ohms, depending on the engine speed, oil temperature and oil viscosity. To test the oil pressure sender only, rev the engine and watch the ohms reading, which should fluctuate slightly (within the range of 15-80 ohms) as rpm increases. If the above results were not obtained, replace the sending unit/switch with a new one.

Hope helps.

My 1999 Chevy Tahoe oil pressure drops when I accelerate from a stop. I am not accelerating hard. what is the problem?

try replacing your pcv valve, which means positive, crankcase, ventilation, you will find it on the valve cover closest to front of the car. on the right side of engine[you did not specify which engine size you have] i hate to guess,so, suggest you repost your question with correct engine size, but it's not that hard to find, look for a vacum type hose that connects to one or other side of valve cover.it's a push in cylinder that gives your crankcase positive ventilation. i also suggest you change oil and filter, please purchase a good filter, such as fram,i'm not supposed to advertise for products so please ask your parts dealer for a productive oil filter.the only other two things it may possibly be is a bad oil sending unit which is located above the oil filter, may be unplugged,or bad unit. or may be oil pump going bad-[worst case solution] wish you the best and thank you for choosing fixya.com

The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area. You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness. You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

How do i replace the oil pressure sending unit on 2000 jeep cherokee sport

Depending on the engine size...I'd say you have to 4.0L...The sending unit should be on the passenger size of the engine close to the oil filter...these need to be removed and installed via a special socket made specifically for the sending unit to avoid damage, but they just unscrew from the block and screw the new one in. Be sure to apply some nylon tape to the threads if the new sender does not already have any kind of thread sealant

I was told I need to replace the oil sending unit on my 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country. I bought a Haynes Repair Manual, but I have not been able to find where the oil sending unit is located, or how to...

The switch is near the oil filter. It can be done with a pair of channel locks or pliers or a deep well socket if you have the correct size. If using pliers make sure you latch on to the metal part near the base.
