    where is the sensor

My 2007 GMC Denali Yukon has an automatic rear lift gate. When you press the button in goes half way up then goes back down. The back is empty and it does not look like anything is hitting or caught in the door. When I put it on manual and try to lift it up it is extremely heavy, like th gas shocks do not help it up at all. Aren;t they supposed to make it life and feel light?

My gate open half way then closes. I forced it up and down a few times, made sure there were no obstructions and even disconeected the battery hoping it would reset. Now it opens all the way then starts fall down slowly, then closes. Could it have something to do with the gas shocks that assist the open/close. When lifted manually they do not do much it is very heavy.

Hi! The problem is the liftgate's shocks for sure. They are worn thats why it has no enough power to lift the gate up. You will need to have them replaced to resolve this. Once replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

This happens because the gate motor senses an obstacle and it interprets that as an dangerous behavior and backs it down.
If nothing is blocking it then it must be something in the mechanism - try to move it manually. If the movement is very slow and hard then the mechanism is defective - most probably rusted.
You can either take the gate apart and repair the mechanism (or just replace it) or you can force it up and down a few times, maybe it will clean itself.

If the gate falls down by itself then yes, the shocks are defective, even without the help of the lift motor they should have been strong enough to keep it lifted. Also if their internal valves are stuck they would cause a very abnormal effort when extending.
They can't be repaired, you will gonna have to replace it.

2007 Yukon Denali XL lift glass is opening when I use the fob to open the rear hatch. This causes me to be unable to then close the rear hatch via the fob

This sounds like you have a grounding problem with your hatch circuits. This type of malfunction usually occurs when two systems (the hatch lift and the Lift glass release) are supposed to be sharing the same ground, but one of the systems has a bad connector or a broken wire. It then "activates" the other system by grounding THROUGH the system that it is supposed to be sharing ground with.

What I would do in your case is to take a HARD look at the wires that are in the conduit that runs between the lift gate and the body. These wires flex every time the lift gate is opened and closed, and are prone to breakage.

The way you describe it, it sounds like the lift gate motor is losing contact at about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way up, and that is when it grabs ground through the glass release solenoid.

How to remove the 3rd seat on Yukon 2007

  • Open the rear lift gate on the Yukon. You need to have access to the seat controls to remove it from the vehicle.
  • Lift the release lever located near the bottom of the back side of the seat. Fold the seat-back forward and lay it flat.
  • Locate the carrying handle at the base of the seat in the rear. Grasp the handle and pull it toward the rear of the vehicle to release the seat from the floor latch.
  • Roll the seat backward along the track built into the floor of the vehicle. The track will guide the wheels so that you can roll the seat completely out of the rear of the vehicle

I have a 2007 yukon and the lift gate goes up about half way and returns to the closed position. What is going on?

try removing your shocks/struts for the lift gate. once removed, check to see if they fully extend in and out of the barrel. You may have bent shocks/struts. Also, check to see there is nothing preventing the lift-gate from opening such as a bolt or acorns between the spoiler and the roof...

Check on the Strut Assembies on Each side of the Door. There should be a Safety device on them that will allow you to keep the door up, They could be Catching at the Open Position.
