It might be time to move to 10W30 oil in your 11 year old vehicle. Do you change your own oil? Try 3 qts 5W30 and 2 qts 10W30 of what you normally use.

Had oil change today. 1998 GMC Sonoma truck required 5w30 they put in 5w20sn. so will hurt engine?

Oil viscosity explained.

It will not make a lot of difference and may will be better as a winter oil.

The main consideration is that they have used a synthetic oil, designated by the 'sn'. I _think_ you have to do a flush if you go over to synthetic from standard.

What oil does a kia sportage 2.0l use

  • Hi, i can help.

  • Looks like your vehicle gets the absolute performance out of a 0W30 Full Synthetic Oil. It also says it gets good performance out or 5W30 Full Synthetic oil. So as long as it is a high quality Full Synthetic of 0W30 or 5W30 you will be fine.

  • As for oil types,, Mobile1, Castrol, AMSOIL all make outstanding Full Synthetic Oils.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

It ticks after warming up but only when i come to a stop an oil light comes on 99 2.7L intrepid

Have that checked ASAP, you may already have engine damage. These engines are bad news, Oil sludging, timing chain and water pump problems if you dont use a synthetic oil.

What kind of oil does a 2000 jeep grand cherokee lerado take

5W30 will be ok if low miles you can try synthetic but if not sure use conventional oil. If its leaking or burning oil move up to 10W30.

The oil light in my 1999 Dodge Intrepid keeps coming on. I have changed the oil in the last month. The light only seems to be coming on when I brake.

If its a 2.7L they tend to do this, use a good 5w30 oil
maybe an oil additive. or change oil sending unit.

What is engine oil type, 2001 durango 4-wheel 4.7 engine

You can use any of the following weights of motor oil: 5W30, 10W30, or 10W40. Personally, I use Mobil1 Synthetic 5W30 in my pickup. Synthetic is better for your motor (you can go 5,000 miles between oil changes with synthetic oils) but once you start using it it's better if you stay with it meaning every oil change you use synthetic oil.

They are pretty reliable. Transmissions sometimes have problems and battery changing, etc isnt easy. I have had 2 concordes and 2 intrepids, as well as a van from chrysler and for the most part they are fine except the transmissions. have had to change the transmission in 2 of the cars and the van (which takes a different one). Engines are good if taken care of. Rick

2004 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 engine, and oil light keeps coming on.

Major issues with the 2.7L motor. design flaw causes oil to hang in the heads and "cook" creating sludge. Sludge builds until the passage to the timing chain is blocked starving the chain and causing near instant failure...this is a "rattling" or Roulette wheel sound. The 2.7L is an "interference" type engine. When the chain breaks or jumps, the cams stop in position thus leaving the valves wherever they may land. The pistons keep on moving though....and kiss whatever valves happen to be open. Bye Bye Motor. Using Synthetic oil EARLY and exclusively cures the sludge issue. Replacing the timing chain and components at interval is crucial...don't wait for it to break or jump!

What type and grade engine oil do i use

Use 5w30 oil in this car, preferably a synthetic. The manufacturer recommends this grade of oil and it needs to be changed every 3000 miles.
