If the leak is from the rear portion of the diff, often it can be cured by removing the cover, cleaning the mating surfaces, resealing and reinstalling. if the cover seems to have excessive corrosion inside, replace it. they are relatively inexpensive and available at almost any parts store, but original dodge ones from the dealer fit the best.

if the leak is from the front portion of the diff (front seal), this requires a some work beyond the scope of most home mechanics, but is not usually a very expensive job. good luck!

Mechanic says front and possibly rear differential is leaking

goodday i would say it depents on how great the leakage is on the diffs.but always a good thing to repair these small problems before it become big.better to buy or make gaskets than to repair a noisy or broken diff

Shattered rear end components 1989 Chevrolet s10

I would suggest a used assembly from a salvage yard. The damage is probably one of the pinion gears. The other gear is still working for now.
It can be a big hassle shimming up gears to make them align correctly if you try to rebuild the ring and pinion assembly. The entire axle housing with springs and brakes would probably cost you less than $100.

1999 dodge ram van speed sensor wiring diagram. I put a new sensor in and it still doesn't work is there a fuse or something else I'm missing

ive run into this a few times, its a bad cluster or if theres a speed sensor on the rear diff then replace that also and see if that works. i had a few of these with the same problem and replace speed sensor in the trany and still no speedo and then replaced the rear diff sensor for abs on the top of the rear diff and that solved the problem.

Left rear axle leaking - Dealer states $820 to fix due to many parts within the axle. Does this sound right?

fix same problem myself...these's' only 1 inner seal (differential output seal only-about 10$ each) that needs to be replace and new brake shoes (20$ part)..assumed u have rear drums and it leaked diff fluid on the brake shoes..but, i also replaced the brake cylinder (15$ part)-u have to disconnect brake cylinder to remove axle..look on internet for procedures.. this helps..all dealers are ripoffs-worked at toyota for a year

Hello, the rear axel seal on my Dodge Ram Dually

is not that bad just take the tires off then take the diff cover off take the drum or disc off on some truck there is four bolts on the end of the axle tube that you have to remove to get the axle out. but, if you look insider the diff and see two clips that look like a c ust take the bar that runs threw the middle of the diff and holds the spider gears inplace and keeps the axle from moving back and forth out and push the axles in and remove the clips then pull the axle out and rip the sear out and install the new one.
