Te first thing to do is to locate the noise source. You can do it with a long screw driver touching the tip on the engine and the holder at your ear. A needle stethoscope can do the job better. The noise might be a overhead cam tick, crank shaft knock, bad bearing or anything else.Hope this will help to narrow the problem.
