There should be a large ring around the top of that cap. You need to tap it counterclockwise to loosen the ring. Here is a video that may help.

Fuel pump not coming on

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. I am Toyota Ed; please allow me to assist you,

In my experience, the most common problem I find with the fuel pump not energizing in the 94 truck product is a corroded power wire going to the fuel pump.

Where to look:
On top of the fuel tank is a cap, and under the cap (which sits in the tank) is the bracket that holds the fuel pump. The power wire goes thru the cap, and down to the fuel pump.

I would suggest you examine the wires on top of the fuel tank for corrosion. You will probably find the power wire has corroded off. This is a very common issue on those vehicles,

I hope that I have assisted you today. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reply; we are here to help you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Is it a big job to change the fuel pump on a 2001 nissan xterra

maybe got to drop the tank to get to the top of the tank and take the lock ring off to remove fuel pump from inside the tank while dropping the tank take care not to rip the harness wires to the pump and sending unit and also change the fuel filters always when putting a pump on.

Not geting fuel replaced fuel pump didnt fix it

You should explain when this problem occured; like while driving down the road, after sitting parked overnight... Anyway you might check the fuel pump relay, the fuses (if old pump was bad it could have blown the fuse), inertia switch (might be located on firewall on drivers side with hoses/wires going to it--push the rubber top portion of the device to reset it), good luck.

Not getting gas from the tank to the engine

Then either the fuel pump has failed, fuel filter is clogged, fuel pump relay is bad, or the fuel pump fuse is blown. Sit in the car in a very quite area or with someone listening at the fuel fill area with the cap removed and turn on the ignition without starting the engine. The fuel pump should come on for a few seconds and then shut down. If it does not then check the fuse and the relay. If it comes on then you know the fuse and relay are good. Replace the fuel filter. If that does not help more than likely the fuel pump is bad and needs replacing. The pump can run and still not be pumping any fuel. A fuel pressure test will verify if the pump is for sure bad. You have an 11 year old vehicle so it would not be uncommon for the pump to go bad especially if the filter has been neglected. A partially clogged fuel filter will destroy an otherwise good fuel pump. You will have to remove the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump. Use a hand pump to remove as much fuel as possible from the tank as gasoline weighs around 8 lbs per gallon. The less weight the better. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

How to change the fuel filter for 2004 kia sedona

I believe there is actually an access panel in front of the second row seat behind the drivers seat that you can access the top of the tank, fuel pump and possibly the fuel filter. Lift up the carpeting and check.
1. Remove the fuel tank cap to lower the fuel tank's internal pressure. 2. Locate access cover. 3. Remove the fuel pump & fuel filter assembly installation screws, then remove the fuel pump & fuel filter assembly from the fuel tank.

1994 Volvo 960 engine cuts off at high speeds

It sounds like a fuel problem as opposed to an electrical fault. Start with the easiest fixes first ..
The next time the car comes to a grinding halt quickly remove the petrol filler cap and listen for air rushing into the tank. If you can hear air rushing into the tank that means a vacuum has been created inside it.

There are 2 causes of a vacuum inside the petrol tank. One is that the air-valve in the filler cap is blocked (there's usually holes in the filler cap covered by a rubber type ring) and the other is that the breather tube from the tank to atmosphere becomes blocked with dirt and debris thrown up by the roadwheels. Try driving the car with the fuel cap removed or very loose so that air can easily enter the tank. If the car still comes to a halt with the same symptoms, then there isn't a vacuum being caused within the tank.

A failing fuel pump can cause the same problems. I once owned a VW that had the symptoms you describe. The in-tank fuel pump was 'on its last legs' and when replaced the car was perfect.

A blocked fuel filter can also cause the same problems.

Here in the UK the Volvo 960 is either a straight-six 2.5 litre or 3 litre engine. I would guess that Volvos in North America share a pretty much the same mechanical layout depsite model differences. A UK 960 has two fuel pumps. One is located within the fuel tank and is accessed via an inspection plate behind the rear passenger seats (estate/station wagon models). The other fuel pump sits in a bracket underneath the car alongside the fuel filter, just aft of the front passenger seat (driver seat in the US..).

The in-tank fuel pump does most of the work, lifting the fuel out of the tank. The under-car pump lifts the fuel to the engine (it shares the same fuel line). Start with the easiest fixes first - is there a vaccuum in the tank that 'slows'/'holds back' the fuel? Then look at the fuel filter which is supposed to be changed every 40,000 miles.

If it's of any use to you, I've put some photos of the fuel pumps and fuel filter on my own website - www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk Just choose 'Volvo 960' from the drop-down menu.
