Hi,

This code is showing that there is a fault in the transmission somewhere.
It is showing that the Torque Convertor Clutch has a problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Jason

2000 chevy s-10 2.2L automatic with a P1870 code? I know its a transmission code but which one is it in the transmission?

P-1870 means "Transmission component slipping". A very common problem with these transmissions which sets a P-1870 is 2 valves in the valve body, the TCC regulator and isolator valves. The reason for the problem is these valves wear out their respective bores, the converter clutch apply oil passes by the worn valves lowering the apply pressure of the converter clutch.

The clutch then starts slipping and chattering, sets a P-1870 and maxes out the line pressure causing harsh shifts. The way I usually fix these is with a kit from Sonnax. The valve body is removed, both tcc regulator and isolator valves are removed, their bores reamed, sleeves installed with new valves. This is what needs to be done and will cure 95% of P-1870 issues.

Thank you for using fixya and for a short term fix would be to add a additive, such as Lucas transmission additives.

Code p 1870 comes up at emissions need help getting it off. Truck runs fine

Diagnostic trouble code P1870 (Transmission Component Slippage) is a General Motors-specific code whose set parameters are determined by transmission type and engine size. The PCM monitors and compares engine speed to vehicle speed after the converter clutch has been commanded ON in either high gear or Overdrive. Should the expected rpm ratio exceed predetermined parameters, DTC 1870 sets. And upon doing so, the PCM elevates the transmission main line pressure and stops converter clutch apply.

1997 chevy silverado 5.7 with a code 1870 what it mean

1870 is a transmission error code which indicates excessive wear in the valve body and is usually accompanied by unusual shifting. This is a problem requiring a shop fix unless you are familiar enough with transmissions to attempt the repair yourself. You can go to transmissioncenter.net and you will find the part which will fix this error code from recurring. Unfortunately, you may have to have the transmission rebuilt. I am not affiliated w/PATC, but they are the best source for parts, builds and advice there is for GM 4L60E transmissions.
