Question about 1993 Lexus Ls 400
If this engine has hydraulic valve lifters, then it could be a weak hydraulic lifter that pumps up once the oil warms up. Hopefully you dont have low oil pressure. Does the oil light stay on for a while after you start the engine. If it does that could cause your engine to knock

sounds like a lifter my ford f150 does the same thing when its cold but then quits when it gets warm or it could be a weak oil pump. (just some thoughts)

It sounds like the hydraulic lifters are bleeding down after sitting for a while... there are ball checks which are supposed to prevent this... Try using a good engine flush (a product that frees sticky lifters) and replace the oil with a good synthetic... Hope this helps...;-)

SOURCE: knocking when first start engine
I had the same problema and it was the cam chain tensioner. It is a rather expensive part and can be done yourself if you are extremely careful to mark your timing before you begin. You can find the part form ECS tuning for around $350.00 but they can go as high as $600.00.
