You have to remove the fuel tank, unhooking everything attached to it, drag it out from under the car, and unlock the fuel pump locking ring with a hammer and punch. Empty the gas out, replace, put the tank back the way it was, and put the gas back in. You should then be ready to go.

the malibu DOES NOT have a fuel cutt off reset. if the vehicle has a no start condtion, ther is another problem going on, such as fuel pump concern, a igition concern or a theftsystem problem

If it is coming from your fuel tank its the fuel pump. It could last 2 days, 2 weeks , or 2 years. you never know once they start making that sound. I would change it to be sure.

Gas gauge doesn't work changed out the fuel pump or the fuel card and still don't work it's a 1999 chevy malibu


Just had a new fuel pump installed in 2002 Chevy Malibu. Worked great for about a week and then the fuel gauge started reading "empty" when the car has a full tank of gas. What happened?

Yes, the fuel filter is in-line, up from the gas tank, usally in a bracket mounted to the frame.

check connections from the battery to starter if ok tap on the starter with a hammer as a helper starts the engine if it starts replace starter before you do dose the key turn all the way forward normal starting position? reason i ask is why did you replace the ignition cyl lock?
