Question about Mazda MPV

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Mazda MPV that is getting a loud humming sound coming from the engine compartment when the brakes are applied. The pedal also is not as firm when this episode occurs. It also happens sporadically. The brakes were worked on by a major brake chain about 2 1/2 months ago and this is when it started. This sound never occurred prior to this.

This sounds like a power brake motor problem. If it happened right after you got that work done I would take it back there and see what they have to say. I have heard of some of these symptoms coming from air in the brake lines. If it is the brake motor it might just be coincidence that it started happening after that work got done.

2000 Mazda MPV, does not start and the transmision panel is bliking some time

Usually this is due to the position of the gear shift, brake or clutch. Most vehicles require one or more of the following to start the engine:

1) Transmission in "Park" (or "Neutral" if a standard)
2) Clutch Pressed in fully (if a standard)
3) Pressure on Brake Pedal (on some newer vehicles - enough to make brake lights come on)

If you're doing what you used to have to do normally to start the car, you may have a bent linkage that prevents the car's electronics from detecting that the car is indeed in park. If an auto transmission, try pushing the shifter further towards park - or in some cases - more towards the Neutral position.

2004 mazda mpv. suddenly unable to shift from park into any gear. what happened?

Probable culprit would be the electric solenoid that releases the gear shift linkage when you apply the brake pedal. Since it's electric, a dead battery will cause the same result. Check to see if your brake lights are working. If not try replacing your brake light switch as this also gets power to the above mentioned solenoid.

This is a safety feature to prevent children from accidentally putting a car in gear.

Good luck!

What is the pedal box and it's function please? This is for a 2000 MPV Thanks

The pedal box supports the brake pedal (& clutch pedal if it is manual transmition), if it is damaged or broken the operation of the pedals will be impaired & the brakes or clutch will not operate properly

While my mazda mpv engine is on and warmed and park it would idle to 2500 rpm and stay and make a loud noise from the engine i would have to step on the gas pedal for it to go back to nornal. it would also...

sounds like your throttle cable is sticking or your choke cable spray a good lubricant on the cable where the linkage is, get someone to lightly step on the gas while you are under the hood and watch where the cable turns the linkage spray it there and see if that resolves the problem

Mazda 2000 mpv does not start

Couple of things it could be.

Try turning it over without touching the gas pedal. Sounds like you flooded it.

Check the coil and engine management sytem. Its probably that.
