Question about 1989 Volkswagen Cabriolet

2 Answers

I have a 1989 Volkswagen Cabriolet and I am trying to find out what the name of a Part is and where I can buy it. This might sound confusing, but there is a Housing that comes off of the front of the Motor which has a Neck at the Top that goes to the Top Radiator Hose, and underneath the Housing, it has a Sensor that plugs in, and another Neck that requires about a 1/2 Hose that runs down and hooks to something on top of the Oil Filter Housing. I was replacing the Hose because it was Dry-Rotted and started to leak, and when I pulled the Hose off the bottom Neck coming out of the Oil Filter Housing, the Neck came with it; I guess it was melted on there since it has been on there such a long period of time; so now since the Neck is gone, I have no way to hook the 1/2 Hose up to, and it leaked all of the Antifreeze, so you can't drive it because it runs Hot of course. I know this sounds confusing, this is My Mom's little Car and she loves it, and I have been trying to work on it and fix it up for her so that she can drive it. Any help would be very much appreciated if someone could tell me what the name of this Part is, and where can I buy a New Replacement One. Thank You for your assistance if you can help, I would greatly appreciate it. You can call me on My Cell Phone at (803) 917-3636 or send me an Email at JOERCOX@GMAIL.COM. Thanks Again, Joe

Cable from throttle body to transmission

If this 89 Cabriolet has an automatic transmission the part is called a bowden cable (same as accelerator cable)
Part number is 010 321 307 A for the cable from the throttle on the engine to the lever on the automatic transmission. Another cable is also attached the this same lever on the automatic transmission going to the accelerator pedal.

1989 vw cabriolet fuel pump test is there a way

yes. Depending on where your fuel filter is located, you can disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter and then try to crank the car over. If it spits fuel out of the disconnected line your pump is working, if not then it's bad. Another way to tell, but not always is when you car is started you hear a high pitched whining sound from the tanks. This is usually (again, not always) an indication of a fuel pump about to fail.
