Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

The key is stuck in the ignition; done everything imaginable to release. 2006 with 50k miles, and all the comments stated that a shifter problem with an average cost of $600...kid'n right, the car is to new to suffer that kind of cost... One site spoke to a recall for this, however, not able to find anything., is there a recall for the key sticking in the chevy cobalts ignition?

Well thats a pickle. I'm guessing it is out of warranty? I would call the dealership first and ask to speak to a service tech. Hopefully they will help you figure it out over the phone if they are nice. If not, you will probably want to bring it to a shop you trust and have them do an estimate. that will usually tell you the problem. It does not look like there is a recall for this issue.

2008 buick lacrosse key stuck in ignition.

If the key is stuck, it really isn't. Make sure the shifter is all the way up and then pull the key. There's a tab on the shifter that has to be in place by being all the way up it releases the key from the switch.

91 Saab 900 Ignition switch is stuck in lockout can not turn key.

I know this is a common enough problem since one in my family had the same. They had to replace the entire ignition switch.

Try a backup key, if you have one. If not, You can have a copy of yours made which MAY just have sharp enough edges to work again -however unlikely. Sometimes a few drops of oil can loosen a stuck lock too ;/
You can have a locksmith make a custom key for you, or get a new assembly with keys from a salvage yard etc.

Shifter stuck and key will not come out of ignition

yes, there is a light and they may have just forgotten to plug it back in, it should be accessible from the small compartment next to the gear shift, if not, remove the surrounding console and you should be able to find it. there should be 2 lights in there. 1 for the small compartment and another for the gear shift. if it is plugged in check the globe to see if its blown. as for the "little shift interlock mechanism" i would suggest taking it back to the shop and asking them to make sure everything was fastened and tell them you can hear it rattling around. you never know, it may be the wires and plug for your gear shift light.
