Question about Ford F-350

1 Answer

05 F350 - getting a lot of road walking, vibration when hitting rough spots that shake the truck something awful - there is sometimes a knock I can feel through the floor board - some roads have just the perfect rythm on the bumps that my truck shakes constantly. Cannot leave a coke with the lid off - it will be flat in a minute. Even have had it serviced multiple times - tie rods replaced, new tires, aligned twice, balance several times including a friction balance. One mechanic told me it was age. Another told me nothing is wrong that he can find though he feels the bumpiness and the rattles. A third told me to drive on until the front left ball joints get really worn, then replace. I even put a new dampener and new shocks on the thing. My wife now thinks it is in my head!

I have a 2008 308 1.6 vti sport and it has developed a knocking when on bumpy roads at slow speed I have had a garage look at it but they are unable to find the cause any ideas

When someone reports a knocking from suspension a garage is unlikely to spend much time unless the knocking is either obvious or can be duplicated by bouncing or rocking or it is a very favoured customer.

Typically suspension/steering knocks and rattles do not cooperate and disappear once in the garage and so they must check the vehicle is safe and leave the rattle or knocking to develop. Lots of things can cause noise without being dangerous.

I was a mechanic in a garage in the days before time cost so much money and we took a different view of things. Then if someone brought us a rattle we mostly found it and cured it but sometimes the entire staff was employed driving around, bouncing, shaking , listening and sometimes it took hours. In those days the customer never paid for diagnosis - only the repair. That could not happen today...

On the right sort of road surface at the right sort of speed apparently good ball joints, steering racks and suchlike can produce awful noises. These sort of things often need to be checked and rechecked over a period before the source becomes obvious because road conditions cannot be duplicated in a workshop on a stationary car and no checking can be done on a moving car. It can take patience...

One typical knocking that is very difficult to locate is noisy valves inside the shock absorbers. Historically some car brands suffered a lot and others were no trouble at all so it is unsurprising some mechanics have never even heard the sort of racket they can produce that is obvious to no one except the occupants of the car.

I have a 1997 Nissan Altima and when it drives I hear a lot of rattling in the front end what can it be

IS it constant? IF it does not vary when you hit rough spots in the road then it could be a dust cover on the engine or exhaust. If it makes the noise when it is not moving it might be something wrong in the engine. If you hit bumps and hear it, it is the suspension.

No engine light on? Sounds to me like the bumpy road may be knocking something loose. It would help to know if you have fuel pressure when the problem arises.

Truck stalls when on rough roads

The truck is probably stalling on rough roads because the fuel pump float is not staying on the surface of the gasoline in the tank. Therefore, it is taking on air and interrupting the flow of fuel temporarily. It may be sticking a little and operating too slowly.
The fuel pump is inside your gas tank but can be removed and replaced by you if you are skilled enough.

My 1989 Chevey Celebrity started shaking the other day the front part of the car, not like the front end is messed up but it shakes.

Could be a wheel, tire, or axle shaft.
You could rotate the tires front to back and see if the vibration moves.
If it does the problem is one of the tires or wheels.
If it stays in the front, its probably one of the axle shafts. It could also be a hub bearing or something loose in the suspension. But a loose suspension part would normally show up when you hit a bump rather than on a smooth road.

Vibration in my 2006 sonatla glove compartment

Simple Solution: Sell your Foreign Car and Buy an American Car to help put America Back To Work. What do you expect from Korea? American Quality? Your not going to get it unless you buy an American Car. Actually, your problem lies in the dashboard with something loose bumping into the Glove Box or something in that area, Examine for loose brackets or other things which may have come loose. A Flashlight and a good Mechanics Mirror will quickly spot loose objects that may be causing the vibration.
