It sounds to me that the reversing light has a bad bulb. If you have turn signals but no brake lights I would check the brake light switch down by the brake peddle. When you press the peddle it releases the switch to make connection. Check the fuses too...

Could also be a bad ground or two popped bulbs. I have bought vehicles where I swear the previous owner didn't know how to change ANY light bulbs and just left them burned out.

This is the corrective method for your brake lights not working when your headlights are on(2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo):
1) The cause of the problem is heat from the bulb.
2) Remove the light assembly as if you were going to change a bulb.
3) Turn the socket and remove it from the taillight assembly and set it aside(check to be sure your bulb is not burnt out).
4) Look at the opening, you will see 3 flat chrome colored contacts on the assembly. Notice the one by it self at the top of the opening, that is the "ground".
5) If you look closely you will notice the plastic around the ground contact has shrunk a little bit, this caused the contact to pull away from the socket, causing the problem.
6) With a small flat head screwdriver, VERY GENTLY pry up the contact so it stays slightly upward by itself.
7) Re-insert the bulb assembly back into the housing and press your brake petal with your lights on.

You should be in good to go; I hope helps.

2004 dodge ram 1500 brake lights not working when truck is running

When truckis not running, brake booster is not functioning and therefor the pedal goes down further and the brake switch functions. When running and booster is working pedal does not go down so far and light switch is not released enough to work. Adjust light switch at brake pedal.

I'm having brake light problems on my 1996 k 1500 pickup. My all my bulbs are working , but when I turn on running lights it causes my brake lights to go out and makes my signal lights to flash faste

this sounds like an earth problem , but with the faster flashing turnlights it could be the flasher relay , have you had any work done on the vehicle recently that may have dislodged something ?

The third brake light works the main brake lights don't work ?

The outer brake lights work off the brake light switch mounted by the brake pedal so that will need to be replaced. The 3rd brake lamp is powered by another source with a power inverter that runs up the voltage somewhat for the lights are light emitting diodes instead

99 JEEP BRAKE LIGHT WONT WORK..THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WORKS

on chrysler products the third brake light is run independant of the body control module, try checking the fuses that run the brake lights and see if any are faulty if not check you have voltage at the switch and a signal getting to the lights.

Tail lights and brake lights not working - not fuse - what can it be?

Brake light switch, located on upper brake pedal should be checked, that is most likely your brake light issue, but U say tail lights aren't working, but running lights do, tail lights and running lights I would consider to be the same, so can u clarify that for me? Let me know how the u do w/ brake light switch, and if u have issue w/ tail lights?

My tail lights dont work, its not a fuse, my blinkers and reverse lights work, its just my running lights and my brake lights that dont, any suggestions?

check the wire harness that runs from inside the trunk on the drivers side follow it down to the tail light and make shure the wires are not damaged or unplugged remove cover on the drivers side inspect the bulbs the holders and the wires and dont forgt to retighten all grounds that you find on your travels this should get the rear tail lights working also check the brake pedal switch up on the metal part of the brake pedal arm follow it up tp the brake pedal switch and acuate the switch by hand and check the wire voltage coming in and going out when pressing the brake pedal ok give this a shot
