Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

My 4.0 starts only starts after turning the key to the on and off position svereal times. I can tell it will start because I hear what sounds like a low voltage short and then the injectors spray. I learned of this noise after several attempts at different things like, wiggling the wire harness under the hood on the drivers side (that used to work) Then I wiggled the fuel relay in the fuse box, when that worked I figured I found the problem and replaced it. It turns out that didn't work either. But if i keep turning the key, " that works." I can't tell where the short noise comes from because it happins so fast, the jeep starts and I go.

Try getting it plugged into a code reader, that should identify a low or high voltage discrepency

Trouble starting my 2002 toyota echo I turn the key, hear the i believe fuel pump come on but then nothing. Sometimes it fires right but when i turn it off after running it won't restart

When it doesn't start after shutting it off can you still hear the fuel pump come on? The best way to tell is to take the gas cap off and put your ear next to the filler neck while someone turns the key to the on position. If you don't hear it, it may be time for a new one.

No fuel getting to injecdtors

2 things to check. Do a fuel pressure check. It will tell you if the pump is working. Take off the fuel cap and have another turn the key to the on position, but not start. You should be able to hear a humming sound coming from the pump. If you hear this, start by changing the fuel filter. If you do not hear the humming sound at the cap, time to replace the fuel pump.

May be a fuel issue..Check see if you hear the fuel pump coming on..Remove the fuel cap stick your ear right to the tank ,,Get someone to switch the key over to the run position and back to the off position,,several times,,without starting the vehicle..You should hear a short humming sound..

Truck wont turn over hear a clicking sound

Assuming your battery is fully charged it sounds like a starter.

The click you are hearing is the solenoid switch on the starter (basically a relay). Turn the key on and off a few times while someone give the starter a good few wackes with a piece of wood or other hard object. When it starts to crank over hold the key in the start position until it starts....then drive to the parts store and buy a new starter.

Cheers,

Kevin

I have a 2000 buick regal,3.8 that will not

u can try replacing the relay. when u turn the key to the position right before starting position which is the position it would be in when u start a car and let off key because car started, well this is somting to try turn the key to position right before starting position have sombody listing down by fuel tank and see if tey can hear pump come on, try a couple of times to make sure they can hear, also the pump will only come on for about 2 seconds each time u put the key in that position, if u do hear the pump come on each time u do that that means pump is working if so u need to build up fuel pressure which could b anywhere from 20 to 60 pressure, to build up pressure u need to turn the key to same position turn key off turn key back to that position then off and do it like 50 times each time u do that the pump is on for only 2 seconds only building a half to one pound of pressure thats why u haft to turn key somany times to build it back up, if u try that and car keeps almost starting but doesent then u need to build up a little more pressure. NOTE make sure u have gas, also most electric fuel pumps will go out when turned on dry

I need help figuring out what's causing the problem on my car it wont start i'm wondering if it's the ignition i was told this was a common problem on these cars?

Listen for the electric fuel pump to make a werrring sound with the key in the run position, dont turn the key to start you cant hear the noise. It must be very quiet near the car to hear the fuel pump sound. The pump is in the gas tank and should have a access metal plate located in the back of you trunk. Take out things in your trunk to allow someone to put their ear next to this plate so they can hear if the pump comes on or not. It should run for a couple of seconds each time you turn the key to the start position. The pump seems to last about 80000 miles. Also, if you dont hear the pump checks its fuse.

Could be.

Also the jiggling thing could be a coincidence. :0)

Tell me this.... when you turn the key, do you hear a CLICK?? If so your starter is probably bad.
