Question about 2002 Mazda Protege

1 Answer

I changed my alternator 5 weeks ago. Since 2 weeks, my battery light goes on and off on my dashboard. It is usually when I'm on the fifth gear, or when I downshift to 4th or 3rd. I went to a garage, where they checked the charge and found nothing. Any idea what the problem could be? I have a 2002 protege. Thanks a lot!

you will have to disconnect 1 circuit at a time and find the problem, have many ideas at once, like 5 things changed at once, problem solved? 4 items were OK but you still don't know what the problem was. just 1 at a time

Volkswagen Jetta won't start.

Sounds like you have a weak battery, or possibly a bad alternator. The fact that you were able to drive it for 2 days before it died again leads me to believe that it is most likely the battery. You can test the battery by looking at voltage across the terminals when you try to start the car, if it\'s less than 12 volts your battery needs to be replaced. If your battery is more than 5 years old it should be replaced anyway. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Ok, I just got a new battery and coil ignition bwd.I also had my alternator re-built about 2 weeks ago,but my battery light still pops on when i turn the headlights on!my belts seem to be tight enuf. is it...

if you have a multi meter,
check voltage at battery with car running, should be at least 13-14 volts,
now turn on fan motor to high, flashers on,radio on, and check voltage at battery, regulator should have adjusted voltage to handle the load, should still be 13-14 volts,
now turn all that stuff off,and turn on headlights and recheck battery voltage,if below 13-14 volts replace regulator,if voltage is spiking higher than 14volts replace regulator.you do not need other belts.

1998 windstar van: charging system light goes

It could mean the alternator has gone bad already... with the car off, the battery leads should read 11-12V.. with the car on, the battery should read 13-14V.. if it's lower then it's not charging your battery and if it's higher, it's damaging your battery....

Vehicle starts, howwever transmition does not shift.

as soon as you say that the battery goes flat it pins one thing at me
your alternator
most cars these days run from the alternator and not from the battery
this can stop warning light ans wipers etc
it also charges the battery while driving
however it dose not explain the transition not shifting into gear
change the alternator and let me know what happens
