Question about 1992 Buick LeSabre

2 Answers

Mother in law's 1992 lesabre limited heater core leaking. I am trying to help her out since my father in law passed. Just like most GM products i started under the dash, have removed dash panel, lower panel and yet with all the wiring and air vents i just can seem get to it. I purchased a Chilton book yesterday, what a great help that was, 7 steps, no details, and the best part, " dis-assemble dash as required". The book was returned even thought the store policy says manuals not returnable, the manager couldn't argue once he read that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your heater core has sprung a leak. This is about a 6 hour repair. Look for a reputible shop locally to do this. The part cost is roughly 80$

I have a 98 buick lesabre. I am a woman and have no clue whats wrong with it and cannot get straight to the point answers of what is wrong with it. When i drive it, it gets hot, my windshield fogs up,...

your heater core is leaking. It is allowing engine coolant to enter the passenger compartment via the air conditioner / heater ductwork. A cheap temporary fix is to purchase a radiator stop leak product and have someone put it in your radiator. Follow directions carefully, as the coolant can be very, very hot and under pressure. The correct repair can be quite expensive. In warmer climates you can bypass the heater core and run without a heater.

the hoses end at the firewall to the best of my knowledge. They have to be serviced from the engine compartment. The heater is another matter. Many of the old GM Truck products could have the heater replaced without pulling the dashboard. I would go to the local parts store & buy a repair manual on that truck for about $25 then check your hoses, then check the heater core. you can always by-pass the heater core by splicing the 2 heater hoses together with a $3 plastic hose repair kit & a couple of hose clamps. as long as the hoses are long and supple enough & not short or stiff & cracking. you can actually hear old hoses crackle when you pinch them between thumb and forefinger gently. replace as needed

1994 buick lesabre heater core removal

The heater core is located under the dash, in the center. The container holding the core looks like a black plastic box. Remove the ash tray for easier access. You may have to also remove some other covers under the dash. You must first drain the radiator then you have to disconnect the hoses. There are two hoses connected to nipples of the heater core that go thru the center of the firewall. Remove the screws that hold on the cover to the heater core. Then you should be able to get the old one out. There might be a couple of other minor steps but I'm sure you can figure them out. For re-installation just go in reverse order to put it all back together.
