Question about 1994 Ford Ranger Supercab

1 Answer

I am hearing a noise that rattles when I have my door open, it sounds like its coming from the exhast. When I lift the hood and listen to the motor running it just runs smooth. I am just no sure what it could be. Noisy lifters or? I changed the oil and put in a new pvc valve. A friend of mind checked the engine codes and he said that there are no hidden codes and that part seem alright. I was told bt others that my noise is common in fords. Could you give me some suggestions. Thanks, Bill Buck

Check your catalytic convertor, these have a ceramic monolith inside which degrades and becomes loose in the housing, easily checked ! with the engine off, get underneath and hit the cat with your hand ( be sure its cold, the cat not your hand !!) if it's the monolith you will hear a dull rattle when you hit it. Eventually you will get a management light on dash when cat is U/S

Ford taurus 1994 rattling sound front engine compartment

Place the car on blocks or jack stands so the car can be driven without it going anywhere. Have someone turn the front wheels left, straight, then right while depressing the gas pedal so the tires are turning at 5 miles per hour and listen for location of noise.Have the hood open so that you can listen for that noise that you say the car motor is making.

What could be causing rattling under the hood when sitting still?

Many things can cause your problem but the most common is either a heat shield or a retaining clip that has come loose. My recommendation is to block your wheels so that your vehicle can't roll forward, open your hood, start your vehicle, HOLD YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, have an assistant listen to see if they can locate the noise. If the noise is gone with the hood open then look for any shiny spots on the underside of the hood.

Starting the motor, when reversing, and driving forward at slow speeds, I hear a rattling sound from under the hood. I lifted the hood and watched as I had someone shift from into each gear slowly one at...

with the engine off locate a large bolt on front of engine using a large appropreate sized socket wrench gentlly but with some force rock engine using wrench as a handle if engine moves more than 1/8" in respect to car body yeap you got a broken motor mount you'll want to get this fixed soon as it eventually will cause the transmission housing to crack and break

I have a 2003 cavalier and it sounds like there's

Could just be the injectors. They make a clicking noise when the engine is running and you usually can`t hear them when the hood is closed. Some are louder then others. If you know a good mechanic just have him listen to it or stop by a shop and have them listen to it.Go to more then one shop. Some places will might tell you your motor is going when it really is not.You need to be careful.Hope this helps.Good luck.

My left headlight door wont open when i turn the lights on 1985 pontiac fiero

If you open the hood, behind the headlight assembly you will see the motor that lifts the headlight, there is a knob that you can rotate to manually to crank up the headlight until you repair it.

Before you put it up manually, turn on the headlights with the hood open and listen to see of the motor is making noise, if it is you can try a repair kit, otherwise get a replacement from the auto part store or junk yard.

Here is a handy place for Fiero parts including the headlight repair kit I mentioned:

Hope this helps

Ticking and rattling

Is it a 3.9? Does it sound like it is coming from the front of the engine(timing chain)? From the factory the 3.9 didn't come with a timing chain tensioner. They are available after market.
