Question about 2004 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

My son has a 2004 Chevy Impala. Every year he has to replace thermostat. There is cold air instead of heat coming out, however, we can't check radiator cuz we can't get the radiator cap off; couldn't get it off last year either. Any suggestions for both problems?

The thermostat problem is more than likely a problem with the manufacturer of the thermostat. I would go to Chevrolet this time and get a thermostat. The aftermarket ones that you buy at Autozone or parts stores, some of them are junk. And only last a short amount of time. So I would go to Chevrolet. And while you are there. Depending on the Service Writer. Most of the time they will take a quick look at your radiator cap. If not. I would go ahead and buy a new radiator cap too. Sometimes they can be very difficult to get off. You might try a large pair of Channel Locks. Press down and turn.

Sounds like you have a shorted power wire to ground in your heater circuit.

My 2004 Chevy Impala only blows cold air with heat on. The heater would only keep it a little warm the other day but now only seems to be blowing cold air.

Check in the main radiator with the motor cool that the coolant is full as if the coolant is low there will be no heat in the heater. If it is low you need to check for leaks or head gasket problems. If its full check that the temp guage is coming up to its normal position as the thermostat could be faulty. Then make sure that the heater tap is operating corectly.

Check engine licht comes on after driving for a few days wat do i look for?

check your thermostat and make sure you have antifreeze 50/50. My 2000 Chevy impala was blowing cold air, but the previous owner had put some radiator stop leak in the radiator that clogged the whole system. I used a garden hose and flushed the heater core and the water pump.

Just replaced my thermostat on 2004 Impala. Temperature guage goes from cold to hot then goes back down. Heat seems to work when the temperature guage is lower but as soon as it goes up the heat turns...

i going to assume you have the 3.4L or 3.8 L motor
these motors are notorious for trapping air in coolant system
which sounds like what your problem is
not a problem tho they have bleeder screw built into them
there should be one or two bleeders (depending on model year and motor size)
i think yours should have two
one should be on top of thermostat housing
other one right above water pump on bypass tube
open one bleeder at time with motor running until u see just water and no air
repeat with other bleeder
continue to work back and forth between the two bleeders until thermostat opens
then work back and forth a couple times after thermostat opens
keep checking radiator add coolant as needed

I have changed my thermostat and waterpump but my 2004 chevy impala still runs hot.... why is that???? its a 3800 engine

Your rad may be blocking up. Make sure the flow of antifreeze is adequate through the rad. Check for loose fins & debris in front of the rad also. Remove the rad cap when cold & allow to heat up to operating temperature. Observe the flow when the thermostat opens. Check the serpentine belt for wear & replace if needed. If the flow is inadequate, replace the rad. Good luck!

Car trouble

Seems like you have a stuck thermostat. The lack of heat is from the lack of the thermostat opening preventing flow to the heater core.

2004 Chevy Impala no heat from defrost or heater

No heat is often a symptom of low coolant, usually followed by overheat. There are other controls that regulate heater, but right now, re-fill the cooling system with engine running and heater on high, then check for leaks (coolant you lost went somewhere...you need to determine where) Low coolant will damage your engine. Take care of that first, then if heater still does not work, then do diagnosis on that. (if you loose the engine heat won't matter, will it!)
