Hi Friend:

#1) Check your Distributor Cap and Rotor,Cap could be Cracked or Damaged also Rotor.

#2) Since you have 4-coils its possible that 1-or more coils are Damaged,Test each one Individually,to make sure its not a Coil.

#3) Next if All checks out on #1 and #2 ,Then it sounds like your Ignition Control Module Or your Coil Pick-up, Start with your Control Module 1st. Is only held by a couple screws and wire connectors.

#4) Your pick up coil is located below your Distributor cap,The Distributor must be removed to replace it.

#5) If your distributor cap is not Cracked or Terminals Burn't or Carbon Deposits,I would Go Ahead and Replace the Control Module, its only like 30-35.00

This will help you solve your problem, Please let me know how you come out.

I assume the engine is turning over when key held in start position, but it's not firing !, if thats the case, I would remove the distributor cap, and check the inside for cracks or signs of sparks tracking also check the rotor arm for signs of tracking, or signs of the resistor being burnt out. Also check that the carbon brush contact in the centre of the cap is still there and not burnt away. Any signs of tracking, cracks, or burning of either component will mean replacing them, but be sure to put plug leads in the same position as the originals if renewing the distributor cap, Cheers

Power distrubution box caught fire while driving fire dept cut cables to battery is this somthing common or not 1991 taurus station wagon has 83000 orig miles on it how could this happen.

fords in general have numerous complaints of underhood fires, here is a link of hundreds of reports-if you scroll down to Taurus, you might see a similar type of fire and it will give you a place to start when you contact the dealer-since it is a 20 year old car, chances are they will do nothing about it, but if you can find that a recall was done and you were not contacted about it, you might get some relief.

A Buddie of mine bought a 1990 pontiac lemans of a guy he knew for 150$ and the engine cranks but will not turn over. we checked the plugs and they were fine. it has a new distrubuter and wires as well as...

take some WD40 and spray into the intake, if it acts likes it wants to start then it is the fuel system. Take the line off before the filter see if it pumping gas, if not then it is the fuel pump, then after the filter and see if it pumping gas, then at the engine. Now if it does not act like it wants to start it is the ignition system. Good Luck Tim

Well I can see we have a 4th grade spelling abilaty.
but that won't solve your problem
Your problem is not starting is running, if it turns over but not firing its ignition system, replace the TFI (Thick Film Ignition) module on the distrubuter. Its that gray wide retangle looking square sitting on the side of the distributer below the cap
its overheating

No fire to spare pluge

The 5.2 V8 has a distrubuter that has to get key on power and ground. After that tested or corrected to good, then the coil should be tested for key on power if it's not there that circuit needs found. Lets say its good then the distrubuter pick up the in the distrubuter can fail their $50 and most stores will have them in stock, their easy to change provided that your a good mechanic enought to be able to get the distrubutor cap and rotor on and off with out much troble
