Yes, it is located on the passenger's side of the car at the front lower side of the transmission.
You will need the following tools: 12mm and 14mm socket. The slave cylinder could be bolted to the bell housing using either size bolt head.
A 14mm and 17mm open end wrench. The hose to the slave cylinder could be found with either size.
a 10mm combination wrench for the bleeder screw. A small set of vice grip pliers.
Removal and installation instructions for the slave cylinder:
1.Take the small set of vice grip pliers and adjust them to where they just barely close down on the slave cylinder hose. Just enough to pinch off the flow of fluid but not damage the hose.
2. Using the 14mm or 17mm open ended wrench, break the hose loose from the slave cylinder, turning it in a counter clockwise direction. Make sure you have the wrench squarely on the fitting to avoid rounding it off.
3. using either the 12 or 14mm socket, remove the two bolts which hold the slave cylinder to the bell housing.
4. At this point with the slave cylinder lose, have the replacement part near by, make sure you have the copper crush ring with it.
5. Holding the hose, rotate the slave cylinder counter clockwise, spinning it off the hose.
The replacement part should have a small metal rod and rubber cover which retains it to the slave cylinder. Make sure to remove the old copper crush ring and put the new one on the end of the hose. If the part did not come with one, reuse the old one. Spin the new part on the hose and place it back on the bell housing, making sure that the rod fits into the steel linkage which projects out from inside the transmission. There is a shallow hole which the rod should fit in. Holding the part in place, don't try to tighten the hose yet, screw both bolts in by hand and tighten them. Make sure you have them both in before you go tightening anything.
6. Tighten the hose, a good snug pull is all that is needed. you don't have to crank down on the line.
Now you can remove the pliers.
7. At this point you will need the assistance of another person. Have them sit in the car, you top off the clutch master cylinder (the one which has just one resevoir) with DOT 3 brake fluid. See if you can find a small container to catch the fluid in, or just use an oil drain pan. With you stationed under the car with the 10mm wrench on the bleeder screw ready to open it up in a counter clockwise direction, have your friend ready to pump the clutch pedal.

HAVE THEM PUMP THE PEDAL AND TELL THEM TO "HOLD IT" They should keep the pedal on the floor while you open the bleeder screw up.
Some fluid and air may or may not come out the first time you open the bleeder. Close it and tell them to pump the pedal again. They need to pump the pedal at least 5 times and them tell them to "Hold It" again, holding it to the floor. Don't open the bleeder until they have the pedal to the floor.
Open the bleeder and then close it. Repeat the procedure until you see just fluid and no air coming out.. After the first three times you bleed it, check the clutch master fluid level again. Avoid running the reservoir empty other wise you will be bleeding the cluch for quite a while.
Brake fluid will attack paint so if you spill any on the paint, pour water on it and it will neutralize it. DO NOT GET WATER IN YOUR BRAKE FLUID!!!!
If everything goes well, by the fourth or fifth time you have had them pumped the pedal, you will notice the slave cylinder is pushing the release arm and the person in the car should be feeling a normal clutch pedal along with the "pedal free play" being roughly 1/2 " from the top.

The hydraulic cylinder is in the bell housing. When you separate the motor and tranny, you will see it as a unit with the throw-out bearing. Take the hydraulic line off before you start. You will have to bleed it when you are done.

To determine which type of clutch you have, servo hydraulic or cable.
Look down past the engine bell housing and determine the existance of a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.(a piece of casting with a rod facing towards the rear of the vehicle pocket into a bracket protruding out of the gearbox bell housing. As well as a pipe and bleed nipple to be crude)
(which I believe you have).The hydraulic fluid for this unit is sourced from the brake master cylinder reservoir via a sneaky pipe partially obscured to the clutch master cylinder on the internal firewall.If you have no clutch slave cylinder near the bell housing there would be an obvious bounden cable running from the firewall down to the outer of which will be stopped at a bracket hanging off the engine.The inner will continue to a bracket protruding from the gearbox bell housing.

hi considering age of car and that you have no leaks on hydraulics? may i suggest you try bleeding the clutch to rid of old fluid a couple of pumps may be suffice ? b/fluid does absorb moisture and heat over time hence recommendation tat fluid be changed at period specified in handbooks ie 12 monthly ?

The clutch probably has a slave cylinder that does the work. It might be dry or seized. check that first.

1997 Isuzu hombre NO movement when into gear, left IT in first gear let UP off the clutch and the truck didn't jump or CUT off. . What's wrong with it?


MT trans. got it. (said clutch let up.. is the clue)
engine is running right? (sorry)
and you shift to all gears, and car does not move, RIGHT?

if the clutch slips and car will not move in ALL gears.
the clutch is bad, or if a cable clutch, never setting free play on cable is the cause,... done 100s.
or if hydraulic actuated clutch pedal (im too lazy to look)
then if it fails the car can only moved if you start engine in gear.

i get in car,
i start engine in neutral. (did you) or start in gear with clutch to floor.?
i then select all gears, and release clutch and car will not move.
like that.... and win. (i can diagnose any clutch, ive wrecked many racing, so.... see all horrors) and fixed them by self. all.

if you can only move car , starting engine in gear.?
that is bad clutch cable or actuator (slave or master cylinder)

How to remove 4speed transmission from engine on a 1997 Isuzu hombre


Start with removing driveline then undo any clutch cables or slave cylinder speedo cable also. then where the tranny meets the motor remove the bellhousing bolts. then put a jack under it and remove the crossmember. u may need to also remove ur shifter unless ur careful not to hang it up on anything an bend it.

However should the fluid leak at the bell housing area.Then the problem is the slave cylinder. Cant put my 98 Hombre in gear.


There are 4 parts to this system. First is the clutch master cylinder, second is the slave cylinder, third is the clutch throwout bearing, and last is the clutch pressure plate. These are all the parts that can be the issue. The master cylinder is the part that pumps the fluid to the slave cylinder, which pushes on the linkage to the throwout bearing, which pushes on the fingers on the clutch pressure plate, releasing the clutch. If you drained the fluid out, first you need to make sure that all the AIR is out of the system. It's just like brakes, it will not pump if it has air in it. The hydraulic portion of the system rarely gives problems, so here's a question. How old is the clutch in your truck? If it's over 100,000 mi, then you should start suspecting the throwout bearing. Did the truck make any groaning noises when you pressed the clutch recently, and then perhaps it stopped on its own? These are signs of throwout bearings going out. Here's the bit of troubleshooting that you need. go under your truck, and find where the slave cylinder attaches and pushes on the linkage that goes into the bell housing on the transmission. Feel this linkage; it should have very limited to no movement. if it moves significantly, then your throwout bearing went out, and you will need to replace your clutch and throwout bearing. If not, then it's the hydraulic portion of the brakes, and you'll have to troubleshoot between air in the system, master cylinder failure, or slave cylinder failure.

If you've not done anything to your truck, check the Clutch master cylinder under the hood, there is a resivoir that should have brake fluid in it. It usually sits next to the Brake master cylinder & is a smaller unit. If nothing has been done to the system recently, and your fluid is full, either the Clutch Master Cyl. or the Clutch Slave Cy. mounted on the bellhousing of the trans. is defective, or has a leaking connection.

If leaking connection, tighten & bleed the system. Check under the clutch pedal on the floorboard for brake fluid, if you find it, the Clutch Master Cyl is the problem & will need ot be replaced. Otherwise, the Clutch Slave Cyl. will need to be replaced. System has to be bled after replacing either & the Clutch Master Cyl. must be bled before hooking up the lines to the Clutch Slave Cyl.

The clutch has lost all pressure how do I bleed the line. Its a 1996 Isuzu Hombre


Down on the trans is the slave cylinder and it should have a bleeder valve on it. Make sure the clutch master cylinder is full and have someone pump the clutch pdeal then hold it down. Open the bleeder valve and then close it. Do this till you get a steady flow of fluid with no air bubbles.
