You might have a bad temperature gauge switch or the electrical connection at that switch might be corroded, causing the erratic temperature gauge.

After my 2002 grand am has been drive for a while. When stopped the tempeture gage rises over 200. What cud be wrong with the car?

will try to help. have you made a visual inspection, while car has been driven and stopped,w/engine running, is engine fan running? it cools the motor at stop lights and at idle speed after car has been driven and needs additional help cooling the motor. the thermostat in engine controls the engine temerature, if it [temp. guage moves from 200 and below] the thermostats working. check main fuse box under the hood for blown cooling fan fuse,or a bad cooling fan relay. hope this helps, and as always, thank you for choosing you need further assistance, please repost your question, and we'll be happy to assist you!!

Temp gage dropped below szero

Is there coolant in the cooling system? If there is not enough coolant the sensor won't pick up a signal because it's not sumerged. It could be the thermostat is stuck open. Are you in a cold climate, is your anti-freeze stong enough? Your cooling system could be froze. If my calculations are correct 70 km is a little over 4 miles. I'm thinking frozen radiator.

Have the cooling system flushed or as i just did on my own car (same symptoms) remove the hoses going into the firewall and blow out heat exchanger with compressed air. (heater core clogged so no flow through it)

Heater does not blow hot air, just cool air

You can put a higher temp thermostat and that should help, but it should at least have 170 degree air right now if it was working right. There are two other things you might check for, the diverter door make some sound when you switch from heat to cool and back, I can't tell you for sure if it is a manual, vacumn or electric but that would definitely cause it to blow cold air. There is also a valve which cuts off circulation to the heater core when your not using it. This valve will be in line with the heater hoses going to your heater core. I have seen some that were actually part of the heater core box. I feel pretty sure one of these will be your problem. Also if your car is low on coolant it would not heat properly. Hope this can help you!
