Question about 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Already changed fuel filter. Symptoms first started with car cutting out when first started and it seemed to quit once it warmed up. Now car will be running fine one minute and crappy the next. Notice more when pulling a hill. When car should shift down to gain more power it just starts losing speed. Sometimes it surges if cruise control is on. methodically. if i take foot completely off gas and let it shift gears and start over sometimes it fixes problem. It feels like all of a sudden someone releases the car and bam just like that it has mass horse power again. Also backfires under hood at slow and fast speeds. Even on flat surfaces sometimes I cant get it to gain speed or kick down

1998 buick lasabre changed plugs and wires when hit gas cuts in and out

I would try changing the fuel filter and/or pump. My brother had to take the exhaust system off the bottom of the car and then pull the gas tank to get to the fuel filter.

Hope this helps.

My problem was after I would drive the car and the engine would heat up. Once I parked and then tried to start it again while engine was still warm, it would not start. Strangely enough, a jump would solve the problem. But it happened over and over. Once we changed the fuel pump and filter, it never happened again. If you are under there replacing the fuel filter, I recommend changing the fuel pump as well. No sense in having to go through that awful hassle twice.

if its been a while change the fuel filter and then have the fuel pressure and volume checked.these symptoms are very common for a fuel pump problem.

My 94 GMC Jimmy 4x4 vortec, is hard to start, cuts off when i make stops, have to put it in neutral when i am at lights and still have to give it gas then. already changed the distributor cap and rotor...

I recently had similar symptoms from my Kia Rio, hard to start, bad idle in gear, etc.
Ended up being the idle air control valve, you can try cleaning yours with carb cleaner and see if there's any difference.
A clogged fuel filter can produce the same symptoms too, that might be the easiest thing to start with, then it's just a process of elimination from there.

Starts fine dies while running but starts right back up.does this most of the time once its warm

Not quite sure what the problem is the way you wrote the question, I would try changing the fuel filter first. A clogged filter will restrict the flow of fuel. Hope this helps, if not, let me know

98 Buick Regal -engine quits

ok its one of two things you need to check when it cuts off if you have spark or fuel if you lose fuel pressure replace pump it gets hot and makes noise like its running but its not pumping fuel and if you lose spark you need to replace ignition control module has a hair line crack in it and when gets hot the crack expands and loses contact and wala no spark

Cuts off in warm weather after about 10 miles

Don't rule out fuel pump. Had a 95 do the same, ran great when cool in morning then when it got hot in afternoon, it would quit. Wait 15-20 minutes & go again, sometimes got me home, other times a few more miles until it cooled down again. Luckily I had access to a fuel pressure gauge. Cool in morning had 49 psi, when it quit, 2 psi. Wait 20 minutes, 49 psi again. If you can drive it around until it starts to act up then run into a repair shop for fuel pressure test it will confirm it. If not, they may need it all day to monitor the fuel pressure & confirm it is pump. If your a gambler, change it & fuel filter. One thing I did get was trouble codes indicating a lean mixture, due to starving for fuel. Have you cycled your key to retrieve any codes yet?
