Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I replaced my water pump in the truck described. After it started up after jumping it it ran while we checked the level in the radiator and made sure no leaks. I put the truck in reverse to back it out of the garage and it stalled. Now it won't idle at all. It will only start if I put the gas pedal to the floor. After I get it started I have to feather the gas pedal to keep it running

Did you reconnect the temp sensor?

I never took it off. And the guage inside was reading fine. We let it run for about 15 - 20 minutes to cheek the water level in the radiator and to make sure it was circulating. That is when I went to put it in reverse and all the problems from above started to happen.

Ok so my 2001 kia rio ran fine on my trip from nor cal to phoenix, az and ran fine for 3 weeks after. I noticed the oil level was very low when I checked it a few days ago and it started to overheat. I put...

Your engine does not overheat because the oil is low. Do you get heat out of the vents? Check the fluid level in the radiator not the reservoir. Due this with the engine cold. If the radiator is low than you have a leak somewhere. Add coolant to the radiator and see if you can see any abvious leaks. You may need to have the cooling system pressure checked in order to find the leak. If the coolant level is full in the radiator than you may have a bad thermostat. If you get heat out the vents than we can assume the coolant level is full and the water pump is working. When the temp gauge is hot feel the upper and lower hoses. If one is hot and one is cold than the t-stat may be the problem. If there is no heat out the vents and the coolant level is full than you may have a bad water pump. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

Have a 91 nissan pick-up staight 4 have it over heated oce replace thermostat and hose upper ran it for a day got hot again took out the thermostat and still gets hot what is the deal please help lee....

Replace the water pump, and also check for air in the system. Make sure the vehicle is cool, remove the radiator cap, start the vehicle and start pumping the lower radiator hose with your hand to help remove any air pockets in the cooling system. I would try this first before looking at the water pump or the fan since you let air into the system the minute that you removed the hose to install the thermostat and upper radiator hose

Generally if one hose is hot, and the other hose is cold it indicates that they water is not circulating. You could have a defective thermostat. Take the thermostat out and run the engine without it. With the radiator cap off you should see a lot of water moving through. It that is the case, replace the thermostat and you should be ok. If there is no rapid movement of water it may be the impeller on the water pump came loose. This is rare, but it can happen since the impeller is usually pressed on the shaft. You should also check and see if you get a lot of bubbles when the car is running and the cap off. This often indicates a blown head gasket. Hope this helps.
