How do i time my car with out a timing gun

A "timing gun" is used for setting the distributor/ignition timing when the engine is running. If you are trying to replace a cam timining belt, the timing mark for the crankshaft is on the REAR of the engine on the flywheel and the transmission housing. The cam timing marks are on the camshaft sprocket and you align them with the valve cover mating surface on the cylinder head./

How to get the timimg rigth 1988 ford ranger

If you have and know how to use a timing gun first of all to first check the timing with the timing gun to see how much it is off. The distributor cap is part of the timing so you can take off the distributor cap and move it just little at a time but make sure that when you move the distributor cap just a little that the car is not running and then check the timing with timing gun again. Its a trial and error is how I learned by my father this way and its safe just make sure to move the distributor cap just little bit at a time maybe close to an hair or so. I know this might take some time but you will get the handle of it easy once you learn the trick.

The belt broke on a1991 buick park avenue put a naw one now car wont start does turn over

Your timing is off because the old timing belt when it broke on you changed the timing so you have to have someone use a timing gun to check the timing first with the gun.

I need to find my timing position on my 1999 plymouth voyager 2.4 liter with diagram.

Base timing can be found with a timing gun and sharp eyes - should be marks on the crank pulley or harmonic balancer and another mark on the block - when the marks line up when the timing gun flashes, you are at base timing.

My timing is off

You need to obtain a timing light/gun, in order to see how far out the timing is. The timing gun is attached to the first spark plug lead, and then pointed at the pulley on the cam shaft, so that the timing markings can be seen.

You adjust the timing by loosing the bolt which holds the distributor in place, and rotating it slightly, until the correct timing is achieved.
