Without more info I think you could have a vacuum leak and the ECM is over compensating for the extra air by adding fuel. Listen for hissing sound around the engine when idling. Hopefully vacuum hose can be plugged back in.

98 Oldsmobile intrigue gear shift stuck in park Does not stick all the time. Can be moved out of gear by using strength to move it. help please. Thank you

Donot use strength for the shifter, make sure the brake light come on when brake padle is pressed down, if not then change the brake light switch. The shifter is powered through the brake light switch.

I have a corolla AE110. what is the best rev count number when the gear is in park, netural, in drive but with brake padle stepped on.

Hi there,

Idle speed (in PARK/NEUTRAL) should be set to approx. 700rpm (no further adjustment required).

The vehicle's ECU is programmed to adjust the rpm's after this - e.g. when you step on brake pedal, insert into gears or activate airconditioning, the vehicle's sensors send the data to the ECU, which then alters the rpm accordingly.

Cheers,

95 Buick park ave is stuttering when pressing on gas pedal. Tuned up still doing it. No check engine light puzzled?

Use brake clean and clean the inside of the throttle body. open the valve and clean the back of the plate and inside the throttle as best you can, use a small brush. If you have a Mass air flow sensor clean this also. don't use a brush on this. Once you clean those , start the engine, may take a second. then spray some of the brake clean in the throttle at higher RPM's. This should help your problem. Let me know

Drove to a friends house and now the transmission selector wont take the vehicle out of park.

Are the brake light coming on when you press the brake padle? If no then the brake light switch is out/not working. The shifter is powered through brake light switch.

Must foot be on brake when shifting gears in automatic trans

The damage potential is with accidental shifts out of PARK, such as with kids playing around or the accidental shift by an otherwise occupied driver. To prevent accidental shifting out of PARK, car makers years ago started installing the safety interlock which requires a foot on the brake pedal before shifting out of PARK and putting the car in motion. No damage potential in shifting between other gears, as long as the vehicle is stopped. I hope that this answers your question and wins the debate for you.

Gear stick stuck!

Are you pressing down on the brake padle when you are trying to get it out of park? If that don't work check the fuses & there may be a relay that's may be related to a safty divice to the stick shift. If you don't press the brake padle the stick shift will not release so if you leave the car running a child could not push in gear. The lock silinoid is at the gear console

Suburban wont go into gear

check to see if your brake lights are working.there is a safety system that wont allow you to shift from park unless you push the brake pedal........most of these systems utilize the brake light switch for this........if your brake lights dont work it is most likely a blown fuse.
hope this helps....
