Hi, the problem is a small broken spring inside the door latch assembly. With the broken spring, the door latch will intermittently fail to unlock. Unfortunately, the door latch assembly isn't made to be serviced, even though it's probably a 70 cent spring that fails. This is a terrible failure mode since even unlocking the door manually doesn't work.

The worst case scenario (like my friend's 1998 ford explorer) is that the door cannot open at all. The exterior handle has no tension, the interior handle doesn't move, and the lock never unlocks. Don't try to force the interior handle, you'll break it off and cause yourself even more problems.

Once the door is open, you need to take the interior door panel off the door and go to work taking the wiring connectors apart. Fortunately, the window track that's in the way comes out after removing one bolt. It's a bit of work to get all of the linkages and rods for the locking mechanisms and the interior door handle apart. After that, you need to get the door latch solenoid out from behind the bracket that holds it. At this point, you should be able to get the latch assembly out.

2004 chevy malibu driver and passenger door lock problems

The locks on your vehicle are electronically controlled by the BCM - body control module . The driver an passenger door switche's are input's to the BCM . Do you know anything about automotive electronic's ? anti theft alarm remote, could this be part of the problem , No it's just a key less entry remote , nothing to do with the anti-theft .
Door Lock System Components
The Power Door Lock System consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Driver door lock switch
• Front passenger door lock switch
• Door lock actuators in each of the doors
• IBCM (PWR) 15-amp fuse

Door Lock System Controls
The Power Door Lock System is controlled by the body control module (BCM) and can be activated by any one of the following:
• A door lock switch Lock or Unlock actuation
• A keyless entry transmitter actuation
• An automatic door lock actuation
• An automatic door unlock actuation
• A last door closed locking (LDCL) actuation

Driver and Passenger Door Unlock Operation w/o Keyless Entry
When the body control module (BCM) detects a transition of either of the door lock switches to the Unlock position, it switches the door lock actuator unlock control circuits to voltage. Since the door lock actuator lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the driver passenger door lock actuators transition to the Unlock position.

Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop ! Need special tool to diagnose .

Does the scan tool display Idle?
YES - Go to Step 4
NO - Go to Step 8
4
Activate the driver door lock switch to the LOCK and UNLOCK positions.
Does the scan tool display Idle?
YES - Go to Step 9
NO - Go to Step 5
5
Activate the front passenger door lock switch to the LOCK and UNLOCK positions.
Does the scan tool display Idle?
YES - Go to Step 9
NO - Go to Step 6

2000 cadillac deville driver side won't open with the key

1) Key turns but dose not unlock door. This means that the rod that goes to the back of the lock has came off. This also means that is the reason door is not unlocking with the remote as it pops the lock rod inside the door which pushes the lock open.
2) Key does not turn lock at all but works passengers side door. This means that the locks has been changed in the door, but that doesn't sound like the problem as you say the remote doesn't open the drivers side door so more than likely the rod has came off the back of the lock

98 ford explorer Driver side power lock button doesn't work

The button may be defective. Unlike the other doors, if you have the electronic group there is a separate driver's door unlock relay which reverses the door lock motor, probably to disable the theft alarm and allow your fob to open just that door for entry. This relay could be defective. The master switch operates through door lock and door unlock relays and those relays could be defective also.

I have a 08 chevy avalanche the driver side front and rear door locks won't work when I use my keyless entry button or on the inside driver panel. Could it be a fuse? Passenger side works fine I try...

Do the power windows work ? DDM - driver door module fuse 15 amp - location is the instrument panel fuse box , plus LT DR circuit breaker 25 amp. Circuit breakers rarely go bad . The power locks are controlled by electronic's .The passenger side has another power supply ,that's why they still work .
Door Lock System Components
The power door lock system consists of the following components:
• The driver door switch (DDS)
• The passenger door switch (PDS)
• The body control module (BCM)
• The driver information center (DIC)
• The rear door lock/unlock relay (LBEC)
• The reversible door lock actuators in each of the doors and liftgate

The front power door lock switches are integral components of the driver door module (DDS) and passenger door module (PDS). The switches are 2 position normally open rocker switches. When placed in either the lock or unlock positions, the switches provide a direct input to the DDS or PDS. The DDS or PDS monitors these inputs and sends a LAN message indicating a change in the switch's respective position. Modules which activate the power door lock motors receive the LAN message and activate the motor in the appropriate direction to lock or unlock the vehicle's doors and liftgate. The rear door lock switch provides a lock and unlock signal to the body control module (BCM). The BCM upon receipt of a lock or unlock signal will control the rear door lock/unlock relay and also send a LAN message to the DDS and PDS to perform the appropriate function.
The modules which activate the power lock motors are:
• The DDS (driver door lock actuator)
• The PDS (passenger front door lock actuator)
• The BCM (both rear door lock actuators and cargo door/liftgate)
The DDS and PDS are directly connected to the respective door lock actuator through the door lock motor lock and unlock circuits. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received, the module will supply battery voltage to one side of the actuator and ground the other causing the doors to lock or unlock.
The rear passenger and endgate doors are controlled by the BCM through the rear door lock/unlock relay which is incorporated onto the printed circuit board in the LH BEC. The BCM controls the unlock relay by providing ground to energize the coil and controls the lock relay by providing battery voltage to energize the relay coil. The energized the relay and allows voltage to be applied to either the door lock motor lock or unlock circuits. Since the other side of the door lock actuator is connected to the normally closed contacts of the opposing relay to ground, the doors lock or unlock.

It's possible you have broken wire or wires inside the flex boot from the body of the vehicle to the driver's door . This happens a lot .

your problem sounds like the door lock actuator motor has failed this is located behind the door panel, you can test for power and ground at the actuator while pressing the remote buttons if power and ground are present replace the actuator

The automatic locks are not working and the turn signals are no longer blinking. They just stay lit. I have checked the fuses, and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

the turn signal issue is just the flasher unit has gone bad , check under the dash in the fuse panel area for the flasher unit, It just unplugs and you plug the new one back in,
  1. If there is only ONE door lock not working, the problem is more than likely isolated within that particular door, barring some unusual wiring issue.
  2. If all the door locks work with the passenger side door lock switch, but not the driver's door lock switch then the problem is more than likely the driver's switch.
  3. If a single door lock only works in one direction, either to lock or unlock but not both, then the problem is likely to be the door lock actuator.
  4. If ALL door locks work only in one direction, ether to lock or unlock but not both, then the problem is likely to be a bad door lock switch.

The driver side door will not lock or unlock with remote control. all other doors and trunk respond well

Does the driver side door lock and unlock when you press the lock/unlock button on the handle?

If it doesn't work inside either, then either the wiring is damaged/shorted, the solenoid may be bad or the lock may be jammed.

If the lock is jammed then it will be difficult to lock and unlock with the key as well.

Any of those three problems will require you to take the door panel off and inspect behind it.

Driver side door doesn't lock or unlock with the remote. The rest of the doors work fine.

Does the Driver side door lock and unlock from the lock switch inside? If not then you have a bad motor or bad connection to the lock/unlock motor inside the door.
