Question about 1995 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

I own a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 that has 150,000 miles. I was told it needs a new exhaust manifold. I recently went over a pot hole and now the car sounds very rattlely and loud. Almost as if something is hanging from the bottom, but do not see anything hanging. My question is, is it worth repairing and if so an estimated cost. Thank you

If your going to repair yourself, then yes

I don't know what you need,so get involved, remove the bad parts, then decide on, new or salvage yard, for what you need.

Have a 1993 jeep cherokee 4.0 straight 6. Was just told that the exhaust manafold has a crack in it. The trany has over 278,000 miles, but it has a new egine five years ago...is it time to get another?

You know these exhaust manifolds crack it is just a jeep thing. Only you can decide, but with a newer engine and you know the condition of the trans, you might end up with something worse-with all those miles, who knows though-my 99 TJ (same engine, 2 sets of exhaust heads now) has 219,000 miles and the original clutch-if something like an exhaust head went on mine, I'd just replace it, it is not that expensive, just shop around for the header and shop around for someone to install it if you can't (or won't)-should be able to fix it for around $100-150.

My Grand Cherokee sounds like a go cart and I think there must be a hole or something in the exhaust. People have told me it is in the exhaust manifold. Is this an expensive fix?

Hi if its coming from the manifold then its just going to be a case of getting new gaskets these cost next to nothing and should only cost an hours labour to fit so it wont cost much at all to have this put right.

im in uk so the gaskets here would cost about 5 pound each and about 50 pound to fit

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this post as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

92 Jeep Cherokee losing power up hills / EVAP failure

Running out of power going up a hill is generally the fuel pump. Now days a plugged catalytic converter will do it also. The fuel evaporation test could be a bad gas cap or evaporation canister or hose somewhere. The exhaust manifold is a jeep thing, expansion and contraction, hot cold over and over. Have it welded or replaced.

Sounds like you may need a new CAT. If a chunk of the honey comb has broken off and is blocking the exhaust pipe, that would cause your symptom.

Exhaust manifold leak

you could try repair with mechanical metal. its like a paste that hardens with heat. Hardens to a point that you can drill it and cut it like metal. It all depends on the size of the hole. If its big a mechanic might be able to weld it. Chances are though its going to have to be replaced.

1995 cherokee 2.5 td 150k miles will not start.

The oil pressure dropping to zero is common for cherokees. Replace the oil pressure sending unit and it will be good as new. Cracked exhaust manifolds are also common. Usually it will crack where the 2 pipes are welded into 1 pipe before it connects to the front pipe. There are lots of replacement headers out there to choose from. I just ordered one through quadratec.
