The differential 'spider' gears may be in trouble--possibly cracked or damaged. A limited-slip differential can have problems with the clutches. In either case, the differential should be drained of fluid, the axles retracted from the differential and the whole assembly removed from the axle housing. This is likely to be a fairly spendy repair. Hope this helps!

I have 2004 GMC Safari Van. I am hearing a loud rattling noise under the van. someone is telling me that it is a heat shield and others are telling me that it's my catalytic converter going. I do I find...

If you drive on gravel roads it may be gravel inside the shell, covering the converter this is the heat shield,or it may be loose and vibrating.Check fot any of the exhaust grounding out against the frameworks. If you have or can barrow a rubber mallot use it to beat on the converter pipe close to the converter ,you may find the noise related problem, look for loose hangers or clamps.

When i take off from a stop my rear end clicks then feels like a foward jerking, 2004 GMC safari cargo van.

DISCONNECT YOUR DRIVE SHAFT FROM THE REAREND THEN TURN YOUR REAR BY HAND AND IF YOU STILL HEAR CLICKING OR GRINDING
DETERMINE FROM SIDE OR MIDDLE. IF NOT BRAKES THEN REAREND BEARINGS. THESE REARS WERE FAMOUS FOR REAR BEARINGS.
AFTER REPAIR INSTALL SYNTHETIC FLUIDS.

95 GMC Safari AWD frontend noise

Sounds like the brake pads is still slightly making contact with the rotor. Replace pads and / or rotor.

Could be that the pads are wore out and are just scraping the rotor. Definately replace pads AND rotor.

Could be that the pads have broken their clips and are flopping around.

Could be a rock stuck in the overall brake assembly.

This rear end needs to be replaced or re-built. The gears and or bearings are worn/shot. May be able to get a complete rear end from a Junk yard for much less, one in good condition. Good Luck
