If it is overheating with the air on are you driving in town or the highway first start the car and see if the fan comes on once the car starts to heat up if it does not come on that should be the problem. If it does this on the highway aswell then take a good look at the radiator if the cooling fins are swelling up and you cannot see through them then your rad will need replacing hope this helps.

Overheating when I sit idle.

Over heating the engine is a serious concern. With the hood raised you should hear the motorized fan turn on just behind the radiator as the engine requires additional cooling.. If you look in from the rear of the radiator you should see the fan blades.

This electric powered motor operates on a thermostat and when the engine temperature rises this fan should come on. I'm assuming from your description that when driving and air is flowing through the radiator as the car travels the engine is nor overheating.

Check fan motor thermostat, check fan motor and check wiring.

Unlock the thermostat

The thermostat on a car is a fixed item. It is factory designed at 160 degrees, 180 degrees or 192 degrees. The heat from the engine opens it and closes it as the engine cools. If it sticks and wont open the car overheats. It is a 10.00 part sold at just about any automotive store. You can not "unlock" it.

2009 ford flex overheating

Probably need an automotive electrician to find out why the fans don't work. When AC is on, the AC fan should be on constantly. Coolant has to get quite hot for the regular radiator fan to come on, but sounds like the fans are the problem.

My 1997 dodge neon sohc is overheating while ideling but goes back to normal when running the fans are running even when ideling and there is anti freeze

So the car only overheats at idle? How many miles on the car? What fan are you referring to - the heater fan or the cooling fan for the radiator? It sounds like you may have a plugged up radiator. If the engine has high mileage the radiator may have accumulated enough junk over the years to become restricted. Some automotive technicians have a laser that they can use to check the radiator for cool spots, which would indicate internal blockage.

Over heated fixed radiator. Now running rough has no power. Knocking or pinging

These blazers have aluminum cylinder heads and are very prone to warping when the engine overheats. They need to be taken off and taken into a machine shop that specializes in automotive applications to be magnafluxed (tested for cracks) and if there aren't any cracks have the heads ground to get them back flat.
