SOURCE: 1998 Nissan Altima GXE squealing noise

Could be the bearings in your alternator have gone dry and your alternator is about to quit out on you. I had a friend with an 01 altima and we could always hear him coming before we saw him because of this very problem. Changed the alternator out and noise went away. Thanks for using FixYa!

SOURCE: My 1994 nissan altima nox high speed emission

O2 sensors, EGR or catalytic converter(s) may be malfunctioning.
If you've ever had a blown head gasket the coolant coming through could have clogged the O2 sensor and the cat.
EGR system could be out, do you hear any exhaust coming from the EGR pipe or EGR? also try and push in the EGR diaphragm, being careful not to damage the rubber
Also there are a few products you can buy at auto parts stores that claim to fix high nox, but I have not had success with these myself.

NOxGPM reading was 1,8009. What does that mean and how can I fix this?

This means the nox readings are to high , this car is listed as a 1998 Altima is this correct? if so why are they testing for nox?

High nox readings can be due to engine running hotter than normal or egr system not operating .

I took my daughters 1995 Nissan Altima for its two year smog inspection and it failed three times due to nox failure at levels around 1400. Back in march of 2009 I took it to a reputable shop and they...

Check the ports if there is any carbon,I doubt it,
but you got to look
I would make sure you don't have overheating issues
That is the cause of NOX (High Combustion Temp)
Check fuel pressure
Use synthetic oil in engine
Check PCV Hoses etc
